Something I have been thinking on lately is a Rescue knife.
I am a Animal Control Officer and need something in a rescue line.I could buy one for my self but the other two officers also need one so I am hoping the budget for next year will let the shelter buy them.
Anyway one of the other officers and I were talking the other day about something in a rescue line to carry in addition to the Military he carries and the Military or Strider I carry after using the Military to cut off a collar in the field that was choking a dog half to death, the dog came close to not having to worry about it anymore.
Sense I have been there we have also ran up on two accidents where we were the first unit on scene.
I was looking at the scrofa and thought it would be a great rescue blade to carry on a duty belt if it had a AD handle and a 3.5 in blade with full SE.
Thoughts?

See my post in the Busse competition thread, i asked for the exact same knife. A 3/4 size scrofa with fully serrated blade save the last 1/2 inch of the blade left plain edge. Serrations like the Shiva Rex. I am glad someone else likes this idea for a knife too. Maybe we will be able to get something like this. It is what I think of as a perfect EDC blade for what I do.

Yeah, the only thing with me wanting it with the AD handle is to reduce the size for carry on a duty belt, and large coil would not be needed IMO.

Agreed, I too do not care for the choil and the AD handles are fine with me, if the Scrofa handles were shrunk a little with the rest of the knife that would work for me too.
This knife would easily take the place of the rest of my EDC blades if produced. I currently carry an AD or a Game Warden every day, but must also carry a fully serrated folder in my pocket. A smaller, fully serrated Scrofa would really be sweet.

How about no choil and the Vex handle???? It'd still be ugly as sin, but at least functional

I'd buy a couple of them. It would be a very functional knife. I am sure that it would look good once Busse was done with it no matter what handle they went with. With the blade style that I mentioned and U812 also suggested it would be a very practical and functional design that would see a lot of use.

For me it does not need to be sexy just work well.
Black Paper on black coating would be great on a duty belt.

I'd like a satin blade with whatever handles they felt like throwing on there. I would rather not deal with any coating on the serrations. But I am pretty sure that whatever color/coating combination that came out, I would still get one.

Can I ask why the serrated blade? I just happen to throw out one of my dog's old collars this weekend and for S&G's I decided to see how well I could cut through it. Well, I used a sharp plain edge and it went right through, like butta' . I used to carry a SE Spyderco for a couple years but I never really found a use for it where it was better than a PE, except for cutting hot bread. But a kitchen knife worked just fine for that task.

I have always said a sharp PE will cut anything an SE will but in truth there are some things that it will not.I have tried cutting seatbelts and no matter how sharp a PE is it needs teeth to start the cut.I have also seen some nylon dogs collars that a PE will just slide right over without starting the cut.One other thing is those hard plastic ties,I used them when working at Pepsi and cut myself several times because a PE glides right over them, stabbed my leg once trying to cut one of those things off the under side of a new dock for the warehouse. The blade slide right off and into my leg.

I do have a Spydie Rescue SE in my car "just in case" for seatbelts but I never use it so it stays very sharp. The other Spydie I have is a PITA to sharpen, which is one reason I like PE better. I will agree that some items are a little easier to cut if the PE is not near razor sharp. I like to keep mine close to razor sharp and do cut nylon and zip-ties a lot, once the PE gets a little dull though it can become dangerous due to the amount of pressure needed. I guess for application specific tasks, the SE could be better. For most uses though, I like the PE.

For some of the things I find myself cutting a plain edge just doesn't quite rip well enough. Cutting small wires and stripping big wires can be done with a plain edge knife, but a serrated one just does it better, at least in my opinion. Also, some strap and larger manilla rope can be sawed through easier if the rope is not tight with a serrated blade. I used to only carry a plain edge knife, but now I have gone to carrying a fixed plain edge and a folding serrated and I find myself using the serrated more and more. Yes, I know there are better tools for cutting and stripping wires and for cutting zip ties, but sometimes you just gotta make do with what you have on you. I have looked at some of the spyderco fixed blades, but I just can't get away from carrying my Busse's, so this would be a dream knife for me.
