Busse sales volume?

What kind of volume does Busse sell? The reason I'm asking is because it seems like the For Sale andf Trade forums have (and have had for some months) extremely high volume of Busse knives. So, what kind of numbers is the company selling, in general? Or is it just that people are buying these knowing that are have good trade and resale value and therefore they are good investment knives to dump later? Or is it simply that Busse customers are also BFC users, so naturally they'll sell what they have here, making this the prime marketplace for moving these knives?

It just seems like there are a LOT for sale or trade ALL the time. Certainly it isn't because people don't like these knives, so what's the deal?

I will say this: one of the things that has kept me from getting into Busse at all is the huge variation in knives. I realize that happens with custom options, custom shop, etc available, but man, my head spins (in a good way) after looking through this forum for long! :D This is probably a really big can of worms to be opening, but for a general use knife (not killing the enemy, chopping down trees, etc) what's a good model to start looking at?

Chiro75,

We have been known to sell upwards of 8 and sometimes as high as 9 knives per month!!!! ;)

Now, I know what you're thinkin". . . . How can Jerry find any drinking time with that kind of schedule?

Good question my friend. . . good question. . . In fact I will start drinking right now in order to catch up!!!!

Cheers!

Jerry

Let me try to give a buyer/ Oinker's view on this.

Yes, you do often see Busse's on this forum for sale, but you don't see them for sale at other fourms in the same volume. The fact that Busse fans visit the forum here makes BF a good place to buy and sell Busse knives.
If I am selling a Steel Heart (which I am not) it doesn't mean that I don't like the knife (im my case at least) It usually means that I have at least two in the same exact style, and I'd rather sell it to find a different one. Some times you (meaning me) will find that by buying three of a knife makes perfect sense at the time, but later you realize that maybe you want three different knives.
Personally, I never buy a knife as an investment. Busse knives have been known to sky rocket in value, but I am not someone who likes to sell his knives at all, and when I do I try to keep the price as low as possible. I would rather a budding hog get a chance to own a knife he has been searching for, then to gouge a collector. It's a personal thing with me, and if you look at the pricing that most are looking to get for their knives, 99% of them have been pretty reasonable in the asking price.
I love the fact that there are people willing to part with their knives, because it gives people like myself to score pieces I wasn't around for, or that I missed the boat on. I have bought more knives from the aftermarket then from the shop directly, and I have been greatful that people would open their collections for sale and trade.

Now stay away from my Steel Hearts :D

Another way knives make it for sale is when a trade or part trade is made with the thought of selling the knife inorder to make the original deal. I have done this a few times where I didn't want to keep the knife, but took part cash and the knife in as trade knowing I was going to resell it or re-trade it, it is all part of the hobby. Jerry also makes special offers at times where you get a discount if you purchase three or more knives. There always seem to be some collectors that don't have the cash at the time, but would like one later, so the extra knives do have a market at a later time. Also, collectors interest change, they might come across some knives that they like better or simply want to change makers. These are just a couple of my own experiences, I'm sure there lots more.

LOL, that was a good one :) I see you multiply everything by a factor of three these days. So if we take out the "Jerry" equation the actual total would be around 3 knives per month ;) :D

You tell him, Jerry! ;)

And have one for me... On second thought, I'll have that one myself.

Oh? You already drank one for me? Well, that's okay. I'll have one for you, too! Works out better that way, anyway...

Don't let this stop you from getting more involved with Busse knives. At first it might seem there are a lot of options, handles, coatings etc, but it is not hard to keep track if you spend a little time and ask a few questions. One thing I've noticed about this forum is that people are happy to answer any and all questions about Busse knives. No question is too silly, so ask away.

As for a good knife to start with, it really depends on what size you are looking for, however, one that will always be a good choice is the Active Duty. Take a look and see what you think, if you are after something larger the SF Natural Outlaw would be a good choice.

I hope you stick around

9 a MONTH?!? I either gotta start drinking more or less as I'm missing out on the other 8! ( where did my wife hide the bourbon?) HEE HEEE found it!

Ahem. Well, yes, stuff comes up that people have extras of, or they go in a different direction, or see something they just gotta have, or whatever. (BTW, pick up on Eric's advice and get a AD, perfect EDC). I also believe that the Military buys enough of Jerry's output (when he's sober) to keep him in CBL, so we are lucky to get the extras, or when Jennifer makes him go to work. Buy what you can when you can, he may pass out (again).

Does anyone remember where one of those pictures is hidden with the table lined up with a true whack of knives ready to be shipped? Kind of gives an idea of volume. Of course, if you mean the volume that goes down Jerry's gullet... That's a whole other magnitude.

yeah i want to know why all you guys keep putting those knives up for sale. i mean i keep looking and drooling, its cost me 2 keyboards so far. im working my way there though eventually im gonna get a smaller desert tan knife to ride along with my new CT. and for the love of all that is good please dont drink natural light, its just wrong

i buy em all and resell what isn't a perfect fit for me.
it is amazing how loose my defenition of PERFECT FIT has become, though.

So what your saying is I'm buying them faster than you make them. ;) :D :p

All of the above about selling Busses is just rationalization. The real reason, which some are too shamed to admit, is that occasionally someone for some reason is forced into detox, by a wife, girlfriend, or just waking up with an INFI hangover and too many unpaid bills, and swearing never again.

They take the vow, get to step two or three, and some might even make step 8 or 9, disposing of many good knives in the process, but invariably they fall off the wagon, slipping back into that sinkhole of "just one more". So the whole sorry cycle starts over again, further feeding the Busse resale monster.

Then of course there is Skunk, who is forced periodically by the U.S, Geological Survey to dispose of a certain amount of accumulated INFI to avoid revision of the magnetic declination charts for North America. I believe that this was required by House Bill 1051 as modified in joint committee, passed in the first Clinton administration.

How is too many choices or options a BAD THING?!?!
