Hi there. Can anyone answer the following (rudimentary googling could not solve it, as well as checking Bussecollector.com and Ken Lunde's page):

1a. How many types of SAR-3 were made?
1b. Are they all NM (nuclear meltdown)?
1c. Is there a non-LE (limited edition), or were they all LE?
1d. Were they all the same thickness (.160")?
1e. Was it ever offered with a coating?

2a. How many types of MOAB were made?
2b. Are they all the same thickness (.375", or is it .380"?)?
2c. Were they all bowie shape?
2d. Was there ever a penetrator tip like on the Battle Mistress?
2e. Was it ever offered with a coating?

3a. How many types of Killa Zilla (NOT Killa Zilla II) were made (Test Team versions aside)?
3b. Were they all the same thickness (.260" from what I can find)?
3c. Was it ever offered with a coating?

Btw, not asking about Custom Shop ones. Just what was offered initially for sale.

Many thanks to anyone who can provide answers. I really wished there was a definitive website for us HOG collectors (I have two ASH-1 and two FFBM myself) with a detailed list of every (non-Custom Shop) Busse and Bussekin knife out there.

Apparently the MOAB was offered with a coating, or at least there was one custom made as I found a picture on the web.

I will answer what I can;

one question for you, did you want all the custom shop variants ? because there were quite a few and only Busse could answer that.

1a. How many types of SAR-3 were made? 10 excluding variants
1b. Are they all NM (nuclear meltdown)? yes
1c. Is there a non-LE (limited edition), or were they all LE? only one was LE, satin tigerhide
1d. Were they all the same thickness (.160")? they seam to be, the scales on the double cut ones were thicker, made sheath making hard
1e. Was it ever offered with a coating? I do not think so but I think there was a SOS orange one ?

2a. How many types of MOAB were made?
2b. Are they all the same thickness (.375", or is it .380"?)?
2c. Were they all bowie shape? I have seen a silent night/recurve type
2d. Was there ever a penetrator tip like on the Battle Mistress? I have seen one with a penetrator tip and a few with swedges
2e. Was it ever offered with a coating? Yes I have seen several coated ones

3a. How many types of Killa Zilla (NOT Killa Zilla II) were made (Test Team versions aside)? custom shop, lots.
3b. Were they all the same thickness (.260" from what I can find)?
3c. Was it ever offered with a coating? Yes there were the proto's from Blade 11

I wanted to personally get this happening, but, from what I gauged, there wasn't much interest.

1a. How many types of SAR-3 were made?
satin/th LE, redblack G10/satin, satin/black paper, satin/pumpkin, dcbb/blktan, dcbb/red G10, satin/black canvas, think Im missing one or two.
1b. Are they all NM (nuclear meltdown)?
yes but the grinds on the DCBB's are standard I think
1c. Is there a non-LE (limited edition), or were they all LE?
1 LE, (satin/tigerhide) rest are SE's (special editions)
1d. Were they all the same thickness (.160")?
1e. Was it ever offered with a coating?
No, just satin and DCBB

2a. How many types of MOAB were made?
They are custom shops, no one should know the answer to that
2b. Are they all the same thickness (.375", or is it .380"?)?
2c. Were they all bowie shape?
2d. Was there ever a penetrator tip like on the Battle Mistress?
2e. Was it ever offered with a coating?
Yes but dont seem as common

3a. How many types of Killa Zilla (NOT Killa Zilla II) were made (Test Team versions aside)?
There are only test teams(no one will know how many), the 2's both CG and LE, and apx 20 protos in I think 3 different color combos (and of course customs)
3b. Were they all the same thickness (.260" from what I can find)?
(my proto is .285, not sure about the others)
3c. Was it ever offered with a coating?
Only the protos

Answered as many as I could w/in the quote *whoops, Dave beat me* *No SOS SAR 3s BTW*

Sweet. Thanks for everyone's (thank you David Brown and dericdesmond) replies. Reason I'm asking is because I'm eventually wanting to track these down. Wanting to see what options are available, to narrow down my search. My first stop is going to be the SAR-3 as it's the most practical. I need a small bushcraft knife as my other two are kinda large. :)

I think there'd be a huge interest. I'll tell you what, if we can get someone to take the time to do it, I'll register a domain and install a Wiki software for the domain. We could have something like bussewiki.com or bussefaq.com or something of that nature. I'll even host the domain. I just don't have the time to do it all, nor the knowledge of enough Busse knives.

I stated the only coated zilla is the proto, my mistake, there are also coated zilla 2s

Go bulls!

I was going to do it actually... I don't think wiki is the way to go, but that's only one reincarnation of what I'm thinking. And I say reincarnation because I wanted to work with bussecollector.com and get that running off of databases and have everything referencing related, but I haven't gotten a reply since I sent him my proposal for the changes. I can't find where that specific text is now, but I remember Bussecollector stating it got the OK from Busse to publish all that stuff, so I think it might be a bigger issue than just collecting knowledge.

And even collecting knowledge can be a big issue... We're just a bunch of drunk hogs. Can you really trust us to remember everything?

Who knows, maybe a wiki could work too. What I had in mind could be sorted, and you could see everything at once, but that can all be revised and redesigned.

It needs to be dynamic and searchable. Thus Wiki. That's what I'd envision at least. Any sort of CMS (WordPress, etc.) could conceivably be used, but I'm thinking a Wiki would work best. It could be user editable, but we'd approve edits or something, or at very least have a versioning system and backups, so if a griefer tried damaging the site, we'd simply ban their account/IP and restore the last edit. Maybe you're right. Throw some more ideas at me. I'd be down with helping in some capacity though, and have a large, very fast server with lots of bandwidth we could use.

Photographic evidence, and the only MOAB I own:

The first MOAB débuted at Blade 2003.

After a few calls I finally got Jerry to sell it to me. :)

He stripped it and recoated it (a couple of times because of some minor flaws in the coating) and then surprised me by adding sealed Tiger Hide scales!

It became a user upon meeting the cobblestones by the fountain at Blade.
