Opinions wanted on the Busse Satin Jack LE as an all-purpose outdoor knife. What about the steel and the sheath?
Bye

Hey Bear....

The Satin Jack is an Awesome knife as far as an outdoors knife is concerned.. One factor that makes it shine is the INFI steel...

You'll have to sharpen it less as it holds a Great edge...

It will definately do whatever you ask it to,,thats for sure...

As far as the sheath goes.....:)

When you are ready come and see me for a sheath...:)

Bear,
Just got my Satin Jack LE a couple weeks ago. One thing, I think
all the new SJ LE's will have 3/16th" blades, instead of the 1/4"
blades. At least my LE has the 3/16th" blade. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I love the Satin Jack, it is one of my favorite Busse's. It comes with the black cordora sp? nylon with Kydex insert sheath. INFI is a great steel. Nuclear tough, and seems really resistant to rust.
And you can't beat Busse's warranty!!

Bear,
I've got a Busse Satin jack-LE and it's a beauty!!! Get one, you'll love it. Either way, you said you want it for an all-purpose outdoors knife and IMHO a Busse knife is the only choice for that use. I think Chip is right that the SJ-LE's now are 3/16 stock so they should be a little lighter. Also they have a wicked sharp dual convex edge on them. Very nice!

You might want to try posting your qeustion also over on the busse forum here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=713 Good luck. Oh yeah, do a search over on the Busse forum on INFI, the steel that Busse uses. You'll get all the info you need and I know you'll be impressed with it.

Great outdoor and EDC knife!

AWESOME steel, now in 3/16" :D , comfortable handle, very utalitarian point style, and Busses unconditional warranty!

I also encourage you to stop by the Busse forum. Any and all questions are welcome there :D

Hi :) I don't own a Satin Jack yet, but it is very high on my list thats for sure. From what I have heard, everyone has been satisfied and amazed at it's performance :D

Hi Bear,
I have had a lot of knifes and I have several Busse's.
After using all the others Busse's are my favorite and the Satin Jack is my user and one of my EDC's.

The SJ is a great do it all knife.
A great all around steel that performs better than all the rest.
You can use this knife all day and it will scream for more.
Under most cases all you need is a ceramic stick and a strop to maintain it, just give it a few licks and your done.
Another thing about the steel you will notice is that all other hard use knifes are 1/4", this steel holds up so well it has been scaled down to 3/16" and still comes with a full warranty against any unintentional damage.

The sheath works fine for general use.
I wouldn't use it to hang the knife upside down.

by the way, in the 70' I spent a week at Lake Garda, still love it.

Greetings to The Bear!
i received my Limited Edition Satin Jack last August, the day i left for Oregon; while backpacking solo in the Jefferson Wilderness area, i used it extensively, & it not only held up admirably, through wood-chopping, kindling-making, "kitchen chores" of food prep, snare-making, latrine digging, & whittling "just-for-fun" but it was a pleasure just to grasp it! What a Tool! It's convex edge only needed touching up "barely" and that was after latrine digging in very rocky Oregon soil; a job which my new 9+" bladed Busse now enjoys, to give my "little" Satin Jack a break! ;)
Since then, i haven't dug in the dirt with it, just "cut stuff" & haven't needed to sharpen it; it just cuts, then it cuts, further it can cut, & need i mention that it just keeps cutting? :p
So, by all means, i MOST HIGHLY recommend the Limited Edition Satin Jack to USE, not merely gaze fondly upon from a "safe" distance (or in a safe  )
Get one: You will not be disappointed.
It also is light-weight & fast, if you need that kind of thing (i personally think everyone does) & keeps well under a pillow ;)

The Sheath - Honestly, the sheath it came with, although TOUGH, due to its kydex insert within cordura outer, does not fit well; i D-Guard wrapped the handle immediately, so that the retainer strap would actually HOLD the knife in place, by running it thru the Paracord; i later obtained a sheath from Eric (Normark, see above) and IT IS AWESOME !! True Craftsmanship, just like my beloved Satin Jack which it houses... The Winning Combination.
All-around knife?
You betcha. Bank on it.
