Hey Skunk,

On a walk through San Francisco I found a guy you should ask if he'd make the Busse Scotch glass

Awesome glasswork, Tony. Do you know the artist's name? I was just wondering if he had a website.... Thanks for sharing.

You'd have to Google "Chihuly" he is the artist.

Also google for the San Francisco de Young museum web site and I think you might find a few pictures there of the exhibit.

Best Regards,
Tony G

I thought it looked like Dale Chihuly's work. I have been a fan of his for years! Our visitor's center here in Columbus has several pieces, including a very large yellow chandolier. Thanks again for bringing Chihuly to the forum!!

Chihuly is a local artist here (Seattle), he basically has just directed (more or less designed) glass fabrication for years, he actually doesn't do the work himself. A good friend of mine started doing glass at the same time, they kind of knew each in the begining. I am currently helping my friend build (I'm doing the design and metal fabrication work) a new glass oven, when done, we will be doing some metal and glass work together. Our wives and another couple all do glass work too! Well that is probably more information than you wanted to know, but maybe I'll come up with our own version of a shot glass, kind of like knives, you can't have too many!!!

:D

Yes he may account for 99% of any culture in your area. :p :p

That exhibit runs to the end of August if you can make it down with your wife.

A Chihuly shot glass would be nice. If you are willing to spend $30,000 for one. I have never seen a piece of his that was selling for less than $60,000. He might be willing to sell a glass for less, because it's smaller. Though I'm sure he wouldn't bother. Dale Chihuly is one of the biggest-name artists in the world right now. Asking him to make shot glasses would be like asking Rembrandt to sketch your dog.

He is blind in one eye now, his assistants do all of his work for him, as he has no depth perception and has no business being around molten glass. I've always wondered if you could track down one of his former assistants and get them to make you something on the (relatively) cheap. He has accolytes by the score that could probably be persuaded to make you something.

Like a dixie cup on LSD.....

Hey, as long as it holds booze and doesn't leak, I'll be happy!!! Maybe I'll wrap it in canvas Micarta so it won't slip out of the hand after 4 - 5 shots!!! :D

Well their were many pieces for sale at the de Young store for about 4,500 to 8,000.

How many do you want? :p

I must be going to the wrong places. For $4,500, I'd seriously consider getting one. Too bad our art budget has been effectively blown. The upcoming baby done sucked up all our art money. The last major piece we picked up was one of these:

That's carved marble, and no, it wasn't cheap.

I love most of Chihuly's work. Those cheap  pieces you saw were likely from his series of Limited Edition works, think of it as the glass version of a limited edition print, maybe 100 copies, each piece part of a numbered series.
