I've seen this odd pattern and searched but can't find the reason for the configueration. Are they better then spyder edge? Do they stand up better to wear?

I ask cause an ARK should be showing up at the door here shortly. Finally get some infi.

I assume you mean the original ARK (Air Rescue Knife), as compared to the NARK (Nuclear ARK). If I remember correctly, the serrations were included for pilots to be able to cut their way out of nylon webbing in an emergency. The serrations on the ARK should resist wear very well. Send me an e-mail and I will send you a photo of 2 ARK's (the serrations vary slightly).

Are the serrations a poor choice for edc? Other knives I've had, have had serrations that would wear easily. Always found a use for serrations though, just never seen this pattern before.

Personally, I like a part serrated blade. Spyderco has a very good explanation of how and why serrations do what they do. The good part is that they stay functional for 3 to 5 times as long.

No, I think serrations are a good choice for an edc. It gives you the option of two cutting edges for different jobs. I'm not real big on the fully serrated blade or even the 50/50, but a 60/40 or less serrated blade works well.

There are two different serrations out there. There are the machine cut ones like on the spine of the NARK and then there are hand cut ones like on the Flying Tiger, Flying Badger and 1st version of the ARK. I have no experience using the ones on the NARK, but I think it is nice that they are on seperate parts of the knife instead on sharing space on the main cutting edge. That being said the hand cut serrations that are found on the original ARK, eventhough they share space on the main cutting edge, are far superior (IMHO) to other patterns of machine cut serrations I have had experience with (Mainly Spyderco, not knocking them mind you). I have found that they actually worked very well and are super sharp little monsters of cutting power. One day I will have a NARK and I will give the machine cut serrations a try, but I wish it were an upgrade option from the custom shop to get a NARK with the hand cut serrations rather than the machine cut.
