I've been browsing around lately for the ultimate knife to carry on all my adventures into the woodland and everyday life, one that would aid me in every way shape and form and the search wasn't going too well UNTIL I found Busse!!!! I've been reading A LOT on these knives and the INFI steel and I think it's safe to say I am absolutely sick with desire for an SFNO or a Hell Razor. Seeing the things you guys do with these knives is utterly amazing. I cannot WAIT until I've saved up enough to buy one of the models listed above from someone!!!!!! I've always loved knives, but none of them met my extreme criteria until Busse....they are priceless in my eyes, functional works of art.

I do have a few questions though, well maybe more than a few haha

1. What is fusion? Is that the black coating I see on some?

2. Hypothetically, if I were to dive into the sea and swim around with my busse attached to my leg, granted it didnt come lose and sink, would it corrode or be destroyed by the salt water if I wiped it off and cleaned with some good oil afterwards?

3. An experiement my friend has dared me to try when I get my busse is to try and break one of his no name swords by chopping it with the busse on the flat of the blade....would it break it? I think so.

4. It seems like it is very difficult to find a Busse HR or SFNO, is it really only possible to find one through an individual seller?

5. Is the Hell Razor hefty enough to perform some of the chopping duties I've seen an SFNO do?

6. If later down the road I wanted a different type of scales applied to my knife can busse do this or would I be able to order the scales and do it myself?

7. On Average would it be safe to assume I will be paying 350-400 for one of these knives in brand new condition?

Thanks so much guys, I cant wait to get my first Busse!!

Fusion is the handle style. IIRC it was called Fusion because it was a "Fusion" of several different Busse handle styles. (if I'm wrong, I'm sure some HOG will chime in on this.

2. Hypothetically, if I were to dive into the sea and swim around with my busse attached to my leg, granted it didnt come lose and sink, would it corrode or be destroyed by the salt water if I wiped it off and cleaned with some good oil afterwards?

Shouldn't have any probs at all there.

3. An experiement my friend has dared me to try when I get my busse is to try and break one of his no name swords by chopping it with the busse on the flat of the blade....would it break it? I think so.

Would it? Probably...Would I advise trying this? NO!

4. It seems like it is very difficult to find a Busse HR or SFNO, is it really only possible to find one through an individual seller?

Both of these are no longer produced so you will only find them on the secondary market.

5. Is the Hell Razor hefty enough to perform some of the chopping duties I've seen an SFNO do?

Never used an SFNO but, the HR has a bigger blade and it makes a good chopper.

6. If later down the road I wanted a different type of scales applied to my knife can busse do this or would I be able to order the scales and do it myself?

Call the shop, I'm sure they could help you out.

7. On Average would it be safe to assume I will be paying 350-400 for one of these knives in brand new condition?

That's about right for an HR. I think the last SFNO to hit Ebay though was $600+

Thanks so much guys, I cant wait to get my first Busse!!

Welcome to the sickness

Fusion is the handle. It's a combination of past handles and a new style for the ultimate in handling. You can choke up for small work and back off for chopping.

2. Hypothetically, if I were to dive into the sea and swim around with my busse attached to my leg, granted it didnt come lose and sink, would it corrode or be destroyed by the salt water if I wiped it off and cleaned with some good oil afterwards?

For that type of work, I would go with a coated blade. The rust, if any (No personal experience) would be limited to the edge and would come of with some hoppes and 000 steel wool.

3. An experiement my friend has dared me to try when I get my busse is to try and break one of his no name swords by chopping it with the busse on the flat of the blade....would it break it? I think so.

It would depend on the force behind your chop. As for the busse, I would expect edge rolling, or slight chipping. When you see true sword fighting, they block with the spine. Metal to Metal ends up in chipping and damage. But in your case, I would expect the sword to be softer and would be damaged.

4. It seems like it is very difficult to find a Busse HR or SFNO, is it really only possible to find one through an individual seller?

It's possible, but you will have to post in the Want to buy section as advertisting is prohibited here.

5. Is the Hell Razor hefty enough to perform some of the chopping duties I've seen an SFNO do?

I would imagine either would perform well for chopping duties.

6. If later down the road I wanted a different type of scales applied to my knife can busse do this or would I be able to order the scales and do it myself?

I would email the shop.

7. On Average would it be safe to assume I will be paying 350-400 for one of these knives in brand new condition?

On the Hell razor. If you find a SFNO, prepare to pay a minimum of $600. The hell razors would be easier to find at this time.

Thanks so much guys, I cant wait to get my first Busse!!

The above may or may not be accurate, correct or right.

Welcome aboard and post pics of your new knife when you begin/end your journey.

I type slower, but too funny to see our posts were almost identical ;) :D

Thought I posted twice :D

LOL... I was typing this in between answering calls at work. Saw you checking out the thread and was suprised to see no reply when I was done. Thought you were slipping for a sec there KAAK...LOL

Welcome to the Busse forum, I'm glad that you stopped by. Stick around and join in our discussions and after a while words like Fusion, Ergo, Straight Handle (all types of handle designs) will become common terms in your vernacular.

If you haven't found it yet, check out www.badmojo.tv and the threads locked at the top of this forum for more info

:D:D

I received yesterday a Hell Razor and had already 2 SFNO's. Did today some testing about a HR against a SFNO. I prefer the SFNO much more. It chops better IMO. The HR only has much more penetration power. I think that's because of the upper swedge. And I like the looks of an SFNO much more.
Will post pics tomorrow of the testing.

Either way you go, you can't go wrong with a HR or SFNO.

Forgot to say . . . for an SFNO you will pay about 600USD or more, like KAAK said. (I know this from experience:rolleyes: ) And they are a bitch to find . . .
The HR is alot cheaper.

Thanks for your replies and welcomes, I'm obsessed already and I don't even have one of these wonderful knives! I've completely forgotten about everything else I wanted......Sitting here at my desk day dreaming about backpacking and a busse LOL

Here is what the edge of my SHBM did to the spine of an ontario 1095 blade. The edge on the SHBM was rolled and not visible but yould feel it if you ran your finger over it but there was no damage to the edge. I steeled and stroped it out and it is perfect. I shipped that knife out to Doc so he can view the damage on the spine.

here is the SHBM hitting a golf club at a very steep angle with no damage to the edge except some minor bending over of the burr, which I stropped out.
Another knife had some pretty severe damage to it. The angle of attack is what causes the damage as you are putting a moment on the edge by not hitting straight on lik you normally would.

if you try to chop a whole sword or knife with your busse, you will damage it severely. It will last longer than anything else out there but it isn't impervious to damage.

Another thing to consider is that with the HR or NO if you buy one you are not going to have a problem selling it. So you could consider getting the HR now and if it isn't what you wanted you could sell it.

Although, the reality is that the HR is just going to be your first of many Busses.

Also that link to the FBM is a great idea!

Cobalt,

Can you do a video of you taking a few whacks at a Ti Moots bicycle frame with a SHBM? I'm thinking about getting a Moots but I'm not sure it is strong enough for me.

Thanks in advance,
Tony G

Here are the videos. As you can see the Moots is in stealth mode and the SHBM's go right through it:

Welcome and when you ask any questions....Our family will answer (Cobalt....You are "The Man") Awesome pics!!!!! and if there are any other questions you have you can always call the Busse Combat office 419-923-6471 ask for Amy-0 and I will try my best to help you out.......but like it was said before "Welcome to the Sickness" ....and/or addiction like I like to call it............... BUSSE ROCKS!!!!! Welcome again!!!!!! :) :)

DreamHawk,
The HR is not the ideal chopper but can do wonders when called upon. I tried it out on this tree knocked over by wind. I chopped 3/4 through at the base before my friend fininhed it with an axe. You can see the HR sticking in the upright log at the left of the chain. It gives you an idea of the tree thickness. It also removed many of the branches.

It also can be pounded through almost anything, so splitting logs is no big deal. As I said it is not the best but for somone who likes to carry a camp size blade, 7", then it is amazing.

Thanks so much Amy-o for the welcome, I would probably ask a billion questions if I called the shop! lol and thanks to everyone else for helping me get a better idea about the HR. Can anyone post a picture of them holding the HR so I can get a good idea of it's "Life-size"? Some pictures make it look BIG others it looks smaller....What's the going price on a straight handle steel heart I think theyre called? I dont have 600 for an SFNO thats for sure, but 350-400 I can swing in a few weeks...I love the HR blade style, if not too big I would also consider the SH. I think the battle mistress is just too large for my needs.

Thanks again everyone for such a warm welcome and I CANNOT WAIT to get my first Busse!!!

I'm sure someone could do that for you. But you may also try to get a pic compared to something familiar as well since hand sizes vary ;) :)

Hey DreamHawk. The HR is a very nimble blade. Sorry, don't have mine anymore for pics but, if you're looking for a 7" blade, you can't go wrong with it. If you're looking to get an SH version, I would plan on roughly $450, give or take, for an Ergo or Fusion version. For a SHSH I can't say cause you never see them for sale. The BBSH that was recently sold went right away at $1000. There's a Black w/black standard scales HR for $360 right now in the exchange. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=423263 . Hope this helps :)
