I Need Help On Identifying A Busse Model. I Am Looking At A Sow 220. What Model Varient And Could Anybody Help Me On The Value Of This Knife.

Thank You

Jr

The SOW are a variant of the Special Forces Natural Outlaw (SFNO.) The SOW was a jumbled acronym of Santa's Wicked Outlaw. They were sold at Christmas time and were red G10 and satin. The original retail was $697.

Would This Knife Make A Good Camp/survival Knife For Heavy Tasks ( Chopping ) And Light Tasks ( Carving ) ? Also, Does It Have A Convex Edge ?

Thank You

Jr

V-edge, not convex... easy enough to make convex.

"Good Camp/survival Knife For Heavy Tasks ( Chopping ) And Light Tasks ( Carving )"

Opinions are argued about what is a good camp/survival knife on the outdoor/survival forums for hours. The answer is very individual - whether a SAK or a Mora all the way up to a Battle Mistress. I think the best thing to do would be take the specs of the SOW and decide for yourself if it would work for you.

I can say this. For me, it is small enough for some carving and light chopping. For heavier chopping, I like a heavier blade.

Again, opinion based as it applies to me.

Camp Knife? Yeah.
Survival? Sure... happily.
Chopper? Not the best but ok for light work.

Doood. You need help. Dang. Talk about goin zero-to-sixty in 0.7 seconds. ROTFL!!!!

You do know you can see pix of virtually everything at www.bussecollector.com right? (In case you didn't know that.) BC is a great member here that compliled all of that info and pix. Awesomely helpful to see knives you might want.

The SOW has some of the best grinds I have seen. The blade is made for quickness and also has a recurve. The best looking fighter I have ever seen but not sure it would have enough forward blade weight for a chopper.
Would make a good camp knife but there are less expensive Busse's for that...they just won't look as good as the SOW.

Agree with all Paddling Man said. Pic of mine I got at Blade

First time I read this post, I was trying to figure out what "Sow 220" meant, as Busse don't usually have numbers like that in the model name. Then it just hit me that the 220 must have come from 0.220", the thickness of the S.O.W. (Santa's Outlaw Wicked variant).

At 7" in length, it could be a reasonable chopper for light duty, but it has a distal taper, compared to the standard SFNO, which carries the full thickness most of the way to the tip. So the SOW has less weight forward, not as good for chopping, better for blade quickness, as a fighter. The recurve will make it a little less useful as a camp knife, harder to cut food on a flat surface.

Although a SOW might be easier to locate, I think the SFNO is a superior camp knife based on its design. Its a better for chopping and batoning, and will still handle the more delicate tasks. Having said that I usually use mine in combination with a smaller knife along the lines of a HRLM or a RAT3 for those types of tasks.

IMO, I think the SOW is more a fighter. You can also use it for camping but I think it won't be so great for chopping. But then again I aint really sure about that because I don't have one but it's just my opinion....

BTW: Ken44, that's a beautiful pic of a beauty blade!

I discovered that fact at Fogo.

The waiters liked it, I think the recurve would have worked well slicing meat off of their spit.
