Busse steel

It is probably NOT safe to assume that when buying a Busse on this forum that it has Infi steel unless specified? Mulder, What is your avatar bottle?

well, if you get a Busse that isn't infi, you just hit the jackpot, the old school stuff is worth good money :) Can't lose either way!

Most of the Busse Combat knives you'll find in the Exchange are INFI. If you have any doubts, you can check sites such as the Busse Collector Catalog to determine when a particular model was manufactured and out of what types of steel. However, if somebody is selling a Busse that's made of A2 or D2, they'll let you know; "old school" Busses go at a much higher premium than newer blades. They come from the time when Busse Combat was a small family business, mostly Jerry (and probably Dan) -- back before there was the sort of brand recognition that had knives flying off the tables. Even the "Basic" series knives, made of modified INFI (M-INFI), are highly sought after.

I would say that MOST Busse knives that aren't INFI will be pretty obvious - they will be crazy expensive, and if they aren't crazy expensive, they will be purchased within minutes of being posted.

You can pretty much assume most stuff is INFI - being old enough to be made from other steels makes a piece a big time collector item, and the price and item description will probably reflect that.

All Busse (factory original) with tube type handle fasteners will be INFI.
Smooth Bolt and Slotted Bolt fasteners can be INFI, A2, STS-34, or D2 depending on when produced.

The bottle is 18 YO Macallan Gran Reserve purchased in 2001.

Then there's all the mosaic pin'd ganza/show customs. ;) :p :D

He specifically said that smooth bolt can be any one of a number of steels, including INFI. I don't know what you think you're correcting?

I've got one of those thick INFI smooth bolts on the way....

I'll even accept that it's satin

:p

The occasional somewhat thicker knife is OK, if it's got the right coating and the right blade profile...

This one is .275
