I see quite a few Busse and SWKW customs avalable on the forums. I was just curious if you can order customs from their shop, or they just release them in really limited quantities? Also how much am I looking to pay for a custom? I know Jerry and crew are gonna be busy with ASH1s for a while, so I wouldn't be ordering one for at least a few months.

I really want a custom .22" thick DC BATAC with tan mags, and partial serrations along the bottom third of the blade near the handle. mmmm... batac *drool*

I have not personally ordered a custom to my specs from the shop, so I hesitate to answer, but I know what has been said before. Custom work STARTS at $100 per inch and the wait time is over a year as far as I know. I think most would advise you that for a knife like you are interested in, find a factory one and have it modified by one of the guys on here. Ban, Bill Seigle and Tom Krein come to mind right away and I 'm sure there are others. You could probably find the knife for modification for around $300, then maybe $100-200 for the mods, $500 in vs $1200.

That's what I'd do!

Thanks for the info. I'd love to kave my Mini Mojo get some serrations and a nice satin or double cut finish. I guess a custom batac at $100 per inch wouldnt be that bad, I hope you mean blade length and not overall.

If you don't want to go straight to the custom shop you'll need to purchase a BATAC LE (available at BusseCo store), remove the tigerhide mags, replace them with tan mags, have it ground from .270" down to .220", have it bead blasted (twice with two different sized media to get that DC finish) and have the serrations ground by hand. Sounds like a major project that the big time modders here could undoubtedly do. I think it would cost you quite a bit of $ though. It would still probably be cheaper and faster than going the Custom Shop route.

At $100 per inch your looking at $500 to start out. The BATAC has a 5-inch blade. I'm sure the other custom stuff you want would bring that price up a lot.

I was over on the sword forum the other day, and guys were talking about sharpening and polishing costing around $100-120/inch.

Well thanks for all the quick replies. I don't think I'll be getting a custom for a while, but maybe I'll send my Mini mojo off to Bill, Ban,Or Tom.

Is it blade length or overall length? I've never ordered a custom, but I've always wondered.

What are generally worth more (when comparing knives of the same type) customs or prototypes?

I see a lot of interesting stuff for sale on the forums, and wouldn't mind knowing wich is generally considered more valueable or more highly sought after - custom or proto?

(Apologies to OP for using his thread for my own *related?* question.)

The best thing to do is cal the shop and ask.

I believe, and this is not gospel, that mods to an existing model are priced differently than a full-blown/from scratch custom.
