Being new to this forum I may have missed something. Has anyone done a test between a Busse and some highly touted stainless piece like a Strider? I think that would be very informative or is this a no no?

Lucky One,
Welcome to the Busse forum, glad you stopped by. :D:D

There are plenty of tests that have been performed using Busse knives, many of these have been at public shows.
Here's a link to one that was performed at Atlanta http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ry Busse rope cutting Blade Show&pagenumber=1
2,771 cuts of 1" hemp rope with one of the Basics.
There was also live testing at a show in Nashville and another in Cleveland.

No other manufacturer will step up and do a live test that even comes close to the performance of these tests.

Here's some more tests that have been done with Busse knives.

Frankly I don't put much weight in the tests of other manufacturers unless they are willing to do the same tests at a live show. And I do not consider testimonials by customers or hearsay of what someone did with their knife to be "testing". Let them step up and perform the tests that Busse has performed "Live" at shows.

I'll let you in on a little secret, other manufacturers won't do live tests, they know their knives can't even come close to the performance of a Busse blade.

One other thing to note, Busse Combat once used some of these Stainless Steels. They stopped using ATS-34 over 10 years ago, Busse discontinued its use because it didn't meet the standards that they set for their knives.

I hope this answers some of your questions

Hey Eric I saw an ad a few years ago that was placed by Cold Steel
issuing a challenge to Busse combat in regards to the Battle Mistress.
Do you know whatever became of that challenge? I assume Cold Steel
lost the challenge because I never heard anymore about it.

I can remember when Jerry used ATS-34 for awhile. I wonder how many Busses are still out there with a stainless blade?

Certainly the old A2 or the new INFI will out cut any stainless.

I think it's safe to assume that :D:D

One other thing to note, is that Busse Combat is often asked about the testing they have done on their knives. They aren't afraid to do the tests, discuss them on a public forum or duplicate them at Public shows.

You may want to ask these questions of some of the other Manufacturers on their forums and see what kind of answers you get.

I have used both the brands you mention as well as others, comments on use you can read in the above links. Any specific questions just ask.

In general, as noted, there are a lot of "backdoor" tests, which mean nothing. If you can't say it in public, it means you won't defend it. If you don't stand behind what you say, why would anyone pay any attention to it. It is hype, nothing more.

Busse Combat does promote their knives aggressively, so do many other companies, several in fact claim higher performance than Busse Combat. However none do so in a public manner in clear language and support what they say with a willingness and desire to have others actually duplicate their claims.

Hype is easy to spread, truth is another matter.

Looks like Eric beat everyone to the links!

Welcome Lucky One, you'll find some good info here about Busse and INFI:)
These guys should be able to answer any questions you might have about Jerry's knives;)

Can you define "outcut?"

Yes...duration or edge holding.

Let's say for instance the classic manila rope cutting. I think the Busse video shows how long it can keep cutting without dulling.

I have never seen a stainless blade come close to that.

Heck how about I say it....

Jerry Busse is a man of his word and I can and have proven that.

No one, not anyone and YES I IN FACT ASKED LYNN THOMPSON IN FRONT OF JERRY, (WELL JERRY WAS 10 FEET AWAY) TO ACTUALLY DO A HEAD TO HEAD TEST AT THE BLADE SHOW. Only Jerry showed up and we did test a knife pulled from regular stock (I had a bunch!) and ALL his claims were not met. Sorry folks Busse knives did not meet any of the claims Jerry made on his web site or his flyers. They blew them away! Our LIVE test at the Blade Show exceeded every test Jerry had ever done.

Also I don't BS. Those who know me know I don't. I tell it like it is. There are many knives I have tested. Some published, some not. Not one knife has ever beaten a Busse in any test I have ever done.

Nuclear Tough? No, it goes beyond Nuclear folks, we are talking quantam physics here!

Now does that sound like hype?

Ya, so what :)

See at the Blade Show :)

Damn Jerry when do I get my Battle Mistress...... ;)

Mike,

I should have it for you at BLADE. Hey, I've tried to email you about 400 times but your email account is always chock full of design submissions. . . . .Howz about sending me a private hotmail account where I can get something through to you?

Thanks for popping in over here.

Jerry
