Hey guys, Ive been to this forum for a while for knife advice, but I just became a member so I thought I'd ask you guys for some advice. Which blade do you recommend more, the busse TGLB or the TOPS Silent Hero? I want a good blade for outdoor utility and for "survival", (I know, the "s" word). I know the TOPS is good all around but I want it to be somewhat of a combat style blade. Thanks for the advice!

I own the Busse. Aside from its Walking Dead fame, I like it because it's reminiscent of the K-Bar USMC combat knife.

Never owned a Busse. I don't care for the rear guard on the back of the knife though.

I've owned the Silent Hero and I just did not care for it. The knife didn't feel good in hand or balanced unless your index was in the finger choil. I got rid of it immediately. The only TOPS knife that really peaks my interest now is the Tex Creek series.

Busse. Got my first Busse a Boss Jack couple weeks ago and extremely favoring over all others at the moment. TOPS doesn't have much I'd want last time I looked at their current models. I'm getting a TGLB or something else larger from Busse hopefully soon. I'd get a Becker/Kabar over TOPS any day if you have to stay in the $100 area.

The TGLB is a great knife, I really wish I didn't sell the one I had. Busse makes some of the best fixed blades in the business and INFI is an excellent steel for harder applications.

bluemetalchurch, I'm almost positive if you were to purchase a TGLB from Busse direct and you told them to remove the rear guard they would. They are usually very accommodating when it comes to stuff like that.

If you can afford the tglb, then that is the clear choice.

^--- This!!!!!

And a couple pix to tempt you: :D

Not even in the same league! Had a Busse TGLB, regretfully, I sold it. Still have the Tops Silent Hero. The Busse is all day a fantastic knife. Great design, great steel, excellent overall knife. The downside is the cost is darn high for a fixed blade. The Tops is a good knife, but it's still a piece of 1095. Tops does it well, and it's a fine knife, but it's not a TGLB.

Both knives are well built and will serve their intended purpose. Sadly, most Busse knives are out of the average person's price range.

Is that tan and black scales or green and black? I was tan and black with tanker grey.

Yes, Black/Tan G-10. The Tanker Grey blade coating is very nice too.

Watch the Exchange here too. Some awesome deals pop up there! :D

That appears to be black and tan G10. That with tanker gray is currently the closest they sell to what Darryl carries on Walking Dead... Course, you can always buy some paint stripper and clean the coating off to give yours a fake competition finish, and then it will REALLY match Darryl's.

Yeah that's how I used to want it like that. Now I think I'm going to get the tanker grey finish with the brown micarta

The TGLB doesn't come with a sheath for $380, increasing your budget much higher. The Tops Silent Hero comes with a leather sheath, tops also have models similar to the TGLB.

P.S. Can you strike a ferro rod anywhere on the Busee?

Other than the actual cutting edge, no. The TGLB specifically has fully radiused edges and is coated in a thick coating. Certain models though, like some variations of the original Team Gemini, don't have radiused edges and some don't have any coating.
