Longtime lurker, first time (I think) poster. I wanted to see what you guys thought about this Leather/Kydex combo sheath for a Busse SARGE 7 LE:

xxxx ---> Sorry, but I must remove the link as the maker is not a BladeForums KnifeMaker / Craftsman / Service Provider level member <---

A lot of thought went into the design, and I'd be interested in hearing feedback and thought process from longtime Busse customers.

i think it looks good

edit to add...

you might could add another couple holes further down to allow "piggybacking" another smaller knife & sheath...much like bark river

like this..

It looks ok, I would add more grommets for lashing, and add a pouch for a small emergency kit. I've found over the years and in a couple of emergency situations that just a knife and fire steel often arn't enough. A few small lightweight items in a small container make things much more bearable and improve your abilities to gather food and keep your gear in shape. I always keep a knife on my person when I'm in the field and those are just the things I've found over the years. Make the belt loop wider too as you wear it in all types of weather a thin loop like yours can easily stretch out of shape and can eventually tear. A thicker loop prevents that.

after jaxx's edit...i missed the link & thought the OP made the sheath

ooooops

I didn't make the sheath. I just linked to a review of it on AllOutdoor.com. It looks like the mod thinks I ran afoul of this rule:

BFC stays open largely through the generosity of members who pay for memberships here. As such, we do not allow non-paying members to advertise their items for sale on this site.

A Gold membership is the miminum membership needed to sell in the For Sale forums.

But I didn't, because I didn't make the sheath -- I'm not Dave from ~snip~, nor am I a friend or relative of his, or anyone who has any stake in whether or not anyone buys anything from him. I'm just a guy who linked up a review, and I can't see how linking a sheath review is a violation of the posting rules. I think the mod made a mistake, and I hope he'll put the link back.

greystark, what you were looking for was some feedback about a sheath. So, if that is what you would like and is all that you are looking for, may I make a suggestion... Copy & Paste the entire review into your original post on this thread as an edit, but please edit out any reference to the maker or his website/contact info. You can obviously state that you aren't the maker to avoid giving that impression. :) If any members want to know who made it, surely they can contact you via email for that info if they so wish.

Or, alternatively, you can ask him to become a member here with the right membership, and as such, enjoy all the privileges that come with a BF.com Service Provider's membership. :)

I realize that as a newbie it's bad to talk to a mod this way, but I'll come out and say it: That suggestion strikes me as totally insane. I'm not going to screw AllOutdoor.com by infringing the site's copyright and posting an edited complete copy of the review here. That's wrong (and deserving of a takedown notice under the DMCA), and just it's kinda nuts.

Can you point me to the exact portion of your posting guidelines and/or terms that states that it's a violation to mention the name of any sheath maker who's not a paid member of your site?

Edit: Also, as for what is my interest here, I'll tell you: I write for AllOutdoor.com, and I collect Busse knives, and I'm interested in reading/participating in some informed discussion of this particular sheath. And since the AO article itself didn't really have any comments, I thought I'd try to kick off a conversation here around what makes a good survival sheath in general -- the logic behind this sheath, and does anyone have criticisms of that logic, and so on. But I'm not the sheathmaker, and you asking me to rip off content from AO.com and edit it for posting here is really inappropriate.

And again, I ask you: please show me the specific terms or guideline that I'm supposedly violating.

Jaxx is never wrong. Deal with it or go away.
Noobs galore. You shan't be missed. Or get in the que and welcome.
PS the rules are plainly listed. Read more post less.

Greystark you could have simply written your thought process out here instead of linking to the other website. I gave you feed back on what I thought of your sheath and you simply ignored it. If your looking for actual feedback how about stop fussing with the mod (who is right) and contribute to the discussion.

Just for your info Jaxx is a even handed guy and easy to get along with if you simply follow the rules of the forum.

You COULD easily repost it with attribution to both AllOutdoor.com and the article's writer. Or...since you now have mentioned that you also write for them, you could probably obtain permission directly from them...

Here's my issue: You posted this thread wanting opinions and feedback. As the OP stands now, you will get exactly that. An image is shown (BTW, who's image? I don't see any attribution to the photographer and you know that every image is also copyrighted under the DMCA too, right? Kinda like "ripping off" the image as you've accused me of asking YOU to do about the article, yes?) and you've asked for opinions. What bearing will the article have to the thread request?

You didn't just post the Maker's name, but his website company name too. So did the article (website). There are plenty of sheathmakers here who pay this site to sell here. They don't deserve to compete against the rest that choose not to. You have 3 posts on this Forum. (ETA: Sorry...now 4 posts!) Every one of them has to do with this sheath, including your first post made back in 10/2012. So now you're back almost a year later with details and who made it, how to find him (website address) and what his company name is. This has no bearing on the discussion that you are looking for. It also doesn't help your case at all to now state that you write for the same website this article is on.

So...as a Moderator for this sub-forum, I'm following a sitewide guideline more than a rule...(but the rule that you posted is more relevant now since you're a writer for AO.com) which is why I only edited your post and took no further action. If you want a copy of your complete unedited post sent to you, I can do that as I saved a copy of the unedited post in the moderator forum before I removed the link here in your post. Simply email me through the BladeForums.com email service found in a drop down menu when you right click my name and I'll reply with your whole post.

With that said, your thread either stands open for discussion as is, or I can lock it. You tell me what you'd prefer from these 2 options.

Have a nice day. :)

Was about to suggest the sheath forum for further discussion, as its about a sheath not a knife, but the attitude here is NOT any more welcome over there either.

I am not as calm and forgiving as Jaxx. :p

Yeah at this point I don't care whether you lock it or not. I've lost interest.

However, I'm still interested in one thing: a third time I ask you, can you actually point to the specific line in the FAQ or posting guidelines or terms that any of my posts have violated? I'm beginning to think you can't, because I keep asking and you ignore the request.

 Don't worry, I'm not interested in the sheath forum either at this point.

Why is it anyone else's responsibility to direct you to what you agreed to before you posted here?
Acronyms are family friendly, right? Stfu and gtfo.

I thought that I explained that it wasn't so much the NAME, but the name and contact information, i.e. his WEBSITE which is in the article on AO.com. THEN, you wrote his company name here. Since you have done this, and continue to question me now as a writer for that site, I'm going with this rule:

Solicitation:
Asking a member to click on a link, subscribe to a channel or website, provide feedback, donate money or goods, or “Like” a page on Facebook is considered solicitation. Our members should not be subjected to this type of spam especially under the guise that they may win something.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/announcement.php?f=804&a=98

As you are a writer of the website that you linked to, this could also constitute as spam for profit to that site, based on earnings per website hit. Whether true or not in this case, I don't have to make that distinction to consider it spamming the board.

Minor spam:
Sometimes new dealers or other individuals come on BFC to post their wares. If we feel it's an honest mistake, we will not ban them outright
This infraction can be issued as a warning and counts as 10 points towards your total. It expires in 6 months.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/faq.php?faq=faq_infractions_lists#faq_faq_infractions_minor_spam

Your question is answered... And now I will make the decision for you. This thread is now locked.
Have a nice day. :)
