Busse Virgin needs help!

Hello Folks! I've looked at Busse knives in the past, and now I'm to the point where I'd like to buy one. I've been to two different Busse websites to look for a model that I'd like. Problem is I only see one or two models for sale, yet I know there have been lots of models. Does Busse only make one or two models at a time, and sell them until sold out, and then start making different models? If that's the case, then I would have to buy from a secondary source I guess. Is there anywhere I could look at various models that show specs such as length and the such, so I could direct my buying efforts toward a specific model.

Thanks for your help!

i am a virgin too , and i think the problem that you have faced is sophsticated! :D:D

You hit the nail on the head. All three Busse companies (Busse, Swamp Rat, and Scrap Yard) only offer a very limited selection at any one time, and the only way to get older releases is either second hand or at a few select knife shows, where there will some variety of stuff available if the Busse gang has a booth.

As far as learning about individual models, I've found these three websites to be pretty good:

Busse: http://hogcult.com/chart
Swamp Rat: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=515896
Scrap Yard: http://scrapyardcollector.com/index.php/Knives

There are several other places out there that are good to learn about the various companies' previous offerings, but these are the three I use most.

Also worth checking out is Andy Wayne's pork links,
http://www.geocities.com/awn98q/Busse.html

There are a number of sites that have info on past models -

http://www.hogcult.com/
http://www.bussecollector.com/

The only two places to buy direct are the Busse Combat site and the Busse Combat Company Store (looked like you found both of those). Knives are first offered on the Busse Combat site. They usually aren't ready for immediate delivery - you order a knife to your specs and then wait for it to ship. It's sometimes a short wait and sometimes a long wait.

After a knife is no longer available from the main site, they sometimes (not always) are offered at the Company Store. The knives offered at the store are sometimes combinations of blade and handle that weren't available from the main site. If stuff is listed at the store on the order form it is almost always in stock and ready to ship. Skunk ships so fast it makes your head spin, and within a day or two you'll be holding your new Busse.

If you're looking for an older model, they're available in the Exchange on this forum. There's a subsection of For Sale by Individuals dedicated to Busse, Swamprat and Scrapyard knives. If you give it a while, almost any knife ever made will eventually come up for sale. Right now there seems to be a huge glut of knives for sale, so the prices are as good as they've been for a long time.

Hope that helps.

Hey, Saw. Where do you live? (No, not exact location. We don't send the black helicopters. Besides, they're tied up over Jaxx's house right now.)

You've got three options soon to really get your hands on some blades in person, depending on your locale.

Indy 1500 - Indianapolis Aug 28, 29, 30
http://www.indy1500.com/

Blade West - Portland. Sept 11, 12, 13.
http://www.blademag.com/bladeshowwest/

Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot - Ft Knox (Louisville) KY. Oct 9, 10, 11
http://www.machinegunshoot.com/shootinfo.htm

Blade West and Knob Creek are always HUGE turnouts. Indy 1500 and a Columbus Gun Show is done my our own Mike (thatmguy.) There may not be quite the same quantity but the experience is not to be missed. ;)

If you're in, say, AZ or Miami, then you need to plan to trip to Blade Show for the full-on HOG experience! Of course, you'll need to wait 'til 2010 for that one!

You can buy Busses from the knife shows, the exchange or on eBay. I've only been acquiring Busses for a couple of years and I have several. There should be a Ganzaa coming up soon, so you can probably pick up a couple then. Also the Tank Busters will be out soon and Swamp Rat will probably have an offering before to long.

read the stickies at the top of the busse subforum. they contain most of the links provided by the hogs posting above.

idahoskunk runs the bcs, and may have the sar4 or other models available.

the busse combat website has the hg55. the tanker is next?

quite a few models available @ the exchange. it's a buyers market, some going for below cost.

ps- the ganzaaa is coming up soon. also shows coming up.

If you find a knife you like that's no longer made you can get in touch with the busse custom shop. How? I don't know I've never done it. I'm know there are people on this forum that can point you in the right direction. Check out the exchange. You will probably find what your looking for and alot of really good people to buy from.

Happy hunting.

Depending on your location there may be a HOG close by that has a model or two that you could see and handle. Most have more than one, at least of the more common models made.

Hello People! Thanks for the warm welcome. I really appreciate it. What I'm looking for is a serious slicer. Something with a blade maybe between 4 to 6 inches. Also, a blade that is thin in profile. Definitely don't want 1/4" thick blade. More like 1/8" up to 3/16". Going to use it camping mostly for things like fuzz sticks, and the majority of the food prep, from meats to veggies. I like the idea of the Busse because of it's toughness, and the fact that if I HAD to use it for other things, it would stand up well. I have a lot of custom knives, but nothing with infi steel. So infi it is! Thanks again!

Sorry, forgot to mention that I live in S.E. Arizona on the border of Mexico. I'm leaving tomorrow on a motorcycle trip to California and then to Miami, so I'll be out of touch for a few days till I get to California at least.
