Busse vs. Mora?

On another forum I'm talking about my Busse's and others are saying that the Mora will blow it out of the water. Anyone have experience with both brands?? I'm not seeing how something as thin as a steak knife and the same sized blade can out do the Jacks, Mistresses, etc....but I suppose anything is possible.

With various outdoor cutting tasks, compare the two if you can.

Thanks

You can compare them for sure. It would be like comparing a Ferrari and a Hyundai Excel on a race track.

When I clicked this, I thought I'd see some mora carnage. Like busse vs mora.
I think people are either; not serious, or just biased for cost reasons maybe? I don't own a busse but handling one just shows the superiority

Different knives for different tasks. If you are filleting a fish, I am pretty sure a Mora will out perform most Busses. If you are chopping down a tree or splitting fire wood, the mistresses will surely outperform the Mora's.

On another note. Busse makes a quality knife with top notch materials. If they decided to make a "Mora" style blade I have a feeling it would likely outperform them on many if not all aspects. Thats just my opinion of course and there are many factors to buying Busse's, some have nothing to do with performance.

Ok good, I wanted to make sure I wasn't going nuts. But the appeal seems to be the cost and the ability for the Mora to slice well. They are saying if they want to dig, pry, baton, chop, ect....they'll carry a shovel, axe, etc. and pissing on the Busse as well as the CS I've mentioned because they are larger and heavier.

Moras are great knives for the money. They take and hold a very good edge. I own several and keep them in the vehicles and in the garage as inexpensive utility type knives. My father in law was doing some drywall work for me and used one in his repairs, not sure what he did to it exactly but the blade did suffer some decent sized chips. Of course, mora's are not meant for drywall and the thin skandi edge isn't the most durable edge geometry.

Still, I don't know anyone who really thinks a mora can compare in the toughness department to busse or EESE or Becker or Kabar, ect.... Frankly it's just in a different category of knife IMO. For $10-15 bucks they are a fantastic value though.

They aren't comparing toughness....but utility.

For woodworking and bushcrafty stuff the thin Scandi grind on a Mora is hard to beat, they cut like crazy. I have a CABS that I reprofiled that comes close.
They can't take the punishment a Busse can but they make a good light weight backup or companion knife with a machete or chopper.

Edit:
As for food prep like slicing veggies, any Scandi grind is going to be horrible. They cut about half way through then become wedged and snap the last bit of material.
I take them to the belt sander and convex the shoulders off to have the best of both worlds.

making a comparision is a freedom of us , but compare mora vs. busse is not fair , cause they too different to compare .

mostly mora are good cutter , especially to those carbon knives , but they are not combat or Survival style .

i do have mora's , and i do not like the stainless ones , carbon version are good Performer .

If you put a Mora and a Busse on the table and told the Mora fan boys they could have either one for free which do you think they would choose? One is a great knife for the money and the other is a great knife.

I like that!

the sad thing is i can see a comparison. i have a busse which is untouched. i have to cut up a box a new tempurpedic came in. i am sure the busse would do it well however if i have a mora i would use that. right now it looks like i am giving the taste to my delica 3. while i never had a ferrari and a hyundai. i had a bmw and now a subaru, i dont worry about the ground clearance or parking the subaru legacy. ill admit i am the type of guy who would buy the ferrari but drive the hyundai daily.

Well for $9.38 I bought a Mora 511. I'll do my own beating on it to see what it can take and what it's strengths and weaknesses are. I'm not going to go all Nosferatu on it but I'll use it heavily.

Thanks

Good for you! Be sure to post pics of the beating!

I've been getting into Scandi and general bushcraft knives recently and absolutely love the mora. However I would still take a busse knife as a large chopper or survival knife if my life depended on it. They are two different types of knives but they excel at their respective niches.

See I'm looking at the Mora as filling the same niche that a good folder should be filling which makes it useless if it's true. Why am I going to carry a non-tang sheath knife when I could have the same thing folded up in my pocket?!? But for only $10 I had to give it a shot.
