Guys,

I'm in the market for my first karambit. I need somebody to sway me toward one of these knives:

Busse War Boar

or

Strider HS or PS

I own knives for many makers (Strider & Busse included), and I'm not married to either brand. I think they are both good knife shops with quality products. (Plus I don't want this to become a big Strider against Busse flame war.)

I'm leaning toward the Busse as it has lots of nice finish options.

Experienced opinions are very welcome.

i would try to answer you but a just cut off 7 of my fingers spinning my BUSSE karambite. :(

I have a strider HS Karambit and love it, but I am considering selling it. I ordered two war boars but have yet to get them.

Typing with 1 finger and 2 thumbs is a PIA isn't it? LOL

I don't think you can go wrong with either brand as both are excellent quality IMHO, but my two WB's are bad a$$ and less expensive.

I wish I could give you some feeback but I'm still waiting on my WB's.:(

And to think I was the inspiration for it!:)

It really depends on the purpose.

Of the striders the HS is the way to go. The strider is a much more effective design as it is more easily used to stab as well as slash. The flesh tearers can create devestating tears that will never fully heal. So if you want an effective fighter the HS is the way to go. It was co-designed by steve tarani who is THE MAN when it comes to karambits.

If you want a nice looking karambit then get the war boar. It is a much more elegant looking karambit. Plus it has INFI which is always GREAT. but its design just isnt as useful for combat. This is probably not a big concern for you.

Just my .02 cents

Drawing the Strider out, those back "teeth" tend to catch on any particle of clothing that's near it. I once ripped open my shirt when I had it IWB at the 4 oclock position. Luckily it didn't grab onto my lovehandle too :D

I have no experience with the WB, so can't comment on that, but it sure looks nice ;)

Very interesting opinion, have you handled both knives?

edit: just went back and looked at the war boar, and my initial statement doesnt really make sense

i have not handled the war boar. im just judging from the way it is shaped. Im not saying that it is in any way a poor design. the busse appears to have a less conventional shape to it. a traditional karambit doesnt have such an extreme bend to it. This allows the more traditional stabbing motion.

Im not an expert on the subject, and i dotn claim to be, but i have been edcing a karambit for awhile and i really love the concept (an emerson for those concerned ). There are elements i like about the war boar. For instance the serrations on the back look really good, and infi is always a plus.

I like both companies alot, and im sure ill end up buying a war boar and a HS :D both

Oh okay I thought maybe you'd handled both side by side and not judged them just by the way they look. I have an HS and it's a good design but I prefer a slightly more curved blade like the Busse's and from what I've heard the weight sounds a little lighter than the HS which is also a plus.

I wish i had handled the war boar. The idea of lightness does apeal to me. I think the lighter the quicker your strikes will be. Either design is good. I jsut really like the ability to stab.:D

the answer is obvious...get both!

Both are nice. The traditional Karambits I trained with were very small, easy to conceal, and not sharpened. Just pointy. It was meant to rip as that kind of injury is more difficult to deal with (I am told).

I think these two Karambits are a complete evolution. They both seem to be combative as well as being excellent cutting tools.

But I havent held either of these two so if someone wouldn't mind sending me theirs I could give better feedback.

Great looking WB BTW. ;)

i have both and here is my opinion. the busse offers one heck of a grip with its large handle much more secure than the HS. the WB is alot heavier than the HS but i like the weight better. i have yet to get a sheath yet to see how it carries but i vote for the WB overall:thumbup:

i should mention the HS rusts easily
