If they are so good a knife, why is 11 out of 12 knifes on the Production For Sale Forum Busse???
Just wondering:confused:

Some people buy lots of them, then decide that in order to get one that they really wnat that they will sell some that they have multiples of. I myself am selling one because I bought one that I think I will use more than the one that I have now. Just because there are lots of them for sale does not necessarily indicate anything about the knife.

Most of us buy two of the models that we like in case one of them wears out oris broken. Since that NEVER happens, we sell the other.;)

???

I thought the warranty would cover if the knife got broken. I got the impression that lots of people buy an extra one or two to keep as a collector's piece, then tire of it and resell.

here is the deal guys - most people DO buy two thinking that they will use one and keep the other a "safe queen". then they discover that the one they use suffers so little from extreme use that it stays in impeccable shape and appreciates as much or more as the safe queen.

We wind up selling the safe queen when new Busses are released because, well, we just got to have the new one as they tend to get better and better.

Know what I mean !

Grapevine- that was an attempt at humor ;) Thats the story I tell my wife when she questions the multiple purchases.

Actually Contender has the real reason.

I know I shouldn't but .........

I can't help myself .....

I must ask ...

What is it with Chris Reeves and Busse that leads to these kinds of posts? A few months ago there was an identical post about Sebenzas.
You don't see anyone asking why people are selling Benchmades, Microtecks, or Spydercos. Yet if you visit their sights, they all claim to be awesome knives (just like Reeves and Busse). If you visit their forums, the all have loyal followings (just like Reeves and Busse).

Is it the price point, the "small shop" concept (in between true production and true custom)? Or is it something else?

I'm not trying to start a fire fight, I have owned (or still own), all of the above. I'm really curious about where this all comes from.

I think these two (price and small shop) are related, and you have hit on an important part of the psychology of knife acquizition! I think the small shop is really where its at for high-quality user blades at something resembling reasonable prices. Don't get me wrong, customs (or more exactly true hand-made knives since even they aren't all technically "custom") can be great too, but you don't always know if the particular blade you have in your hand was treated as well as others made by the same person. In the small shop, you have to some degree the best of both worlds. Personal attention by the master knife maker, and at the same time the machinery needed to make one reasonably certain that the knife one has is just as good as the one tested by the knife maker 6 months earlier.

I too find it interesting that you will sometimes see a grouping of the same maker knivesbeing sold at once.

I don't own a Busse but I'll venture a guess. Busse seems to make a large number of new and special "gotta haves". Subsequently, when he releases a series of new knives, a fair percentage of the not new ones get turned over on the forums.

Right on Marc...!:D

In my opinion, the thing that produces these kinds of posts about Busse and Chris Reeves knives is that the rabid, almost cult following these two brands seem to engender rubs some people a little wrong.

Before all the faithful pile on me, let me add that I'm planning to get a Swamp Rat very soon, and I think Sebenzas are an awesome knife.:)

If a company can generate such a loyal following in such an informed and intelligent group as us knife afficionados, it must have something on the ball. But zealots in any field bring out the challenge in some people.

Coon,

The thing is; Spyderco, Benchmade and Microtech (just to name 3) have the same loyal followings. If you spend much time at their forums, you'll find just as much devotion.

I find this whole thing facinating...

Thanks for the replies!
