So we've done Busses and 1911's, Busses and wheelguns, now it's time for Busses and all those bolos, machetes, parangs, Khuks and those other hulking edged tools that you guys love. Here's two of my favorites, a CGSHBM that I got from Cobalt recently and a HI Bolo. I've recently become a big fan of HI too! Great tools!

Thanks Dave, one of the things I live about HI is that they're very tough (5160) but even so, make their knives at at LEAST 5/16 and usually closer to a half inch it seems. Try out an AK :p I don't think you'll break it. They don't have the super steel of Busse, but they make up for it in thickness :D that bolo pictured is a half inch thick...it's about two pounds....little more actually. It's totally ME down to the humongus handles. I hope Busse comes out with a Bolo SOON!!!

Oooh. I gotta pull out the 1917 that someone f'd up and I sanded to a satin finish. Gotta go dig it out of the basement. (The guard and handle haven't been refinished, but the blade looks mega-sweet. A not-sharp-enuf zero-edge convex grind too, by accident.)

my only non-busse worth mentioning - an albion longsword. oakeshott type XVa, excellent craftsmanship, superior handling, and expensive as larger and rarer busses. great for those of you studying the works of ringeck, talhoffer, and liechtenauer. i would have more if i hadn't gotten into busses.

i have one of those back when i foolishly thought the high price for a CS it was worth it. it makes a great kitchen knife. but alas, not tough enough for much else.

Sweet! Thanks for the pictures fellas! As much as I love my SHBM's....I'd lock em ALL in the safe if Busse came out with a BOLO!!!

I don't have the Ruck any longer, but the others remain:

Middle knife is the first Yataghan (aka the prototype) from John Gonzalez of Dervish Knives. The other is a variant of the Black Sea Yataghan pattern, also from John. Both are made from 1/4" 5160. The Black Sea version is more slashy/stabby than choppy.

I'll play.

My bolo was a project knife Yangdu sold me. I rehandled it with Rosewood. The ferrule is copper and its got a 5/16 SS pin.

I also took the scabbard down to wood, pinned the edge joint with 50 brass pins so that edge won't get you, and covered it again with veg tanned cowhide.

In this pic are (l to r) HI Bolo, Mistress, Samsher given me by Dick Singer (rip), Tora Khukuri, and an original Bonecutter (maybe only 5 in exsistance, I only know of 4).
