I recently got another Blackwood. :D This one is his small hunter version.

Here is a pic of it:

I was showing my latest acquisition to my dad. Keep in mind that my wife hadn't seen it yet. Dad asked me how much it cost. I think it was a steal but I knew my wife would kill me if I spent another $200 on a knife. I said "it wasn't very much". She took one look at the filework and said "bullshit. A cheap knife doesn't have work like that on it".   Neil your filework looks too good. :D

I will admit. Neil's filework is the best I have seen. It really adds to the knife.

You can't see the filework very well on the above pic. Here is a pic that better shows off his filework.

Here is another pic I found that shows some of his filework:

HAH, busted for sure! lucky for me my wife cares not a wit about the knives I have, I think she knows they COST money but isn't sure or worries where it comes from to obtain said knives, lucky for me I trade quite a bit and save up from sheath work to fund my vicious habit, the Steel Virus!

Nice file work forsure, that last pic really stands out!
Great work Neil!

Buahahahahahahahaha! The wife never has a clue! Mine just gave me $100 for what I think she thought was payment in full for a Mastersmith folder (no file work). Hehehehehehe.

I love file work, and have a few nice examples of the art. Thanks for sharing these! :)

(Grin) That back knife in Dennis's second pic, (the one with the lighter burl) is mine. :) :) My 3rd Blackwood, good thing I don't have a wife to worry about any more.

All that I can say is WOW, that's are amazing. That file work is just ... uniquely -- awesome. I especially like the last 2 pics!!! I think that I am going to have to look into Blackwood's a bit more. Maybe Mike will let me take a look at his when he gets it... Time to plan a trip!
Thanks for the great pics,

To be honest, it's acually a mix between mill work, dremel work AND filework! Everything is roughed in prior to heat treat. One of the things I enjoy most about knifemaking is FINISHING the filework as I finish the knife.

Quite often, I have NO set design in mind when I start. I just put a certain type of cut in the middle of the spine and work towards the handle and the tip from there. Most of my filework is not a standard pattern like a rope or vine, for lack of a better term, I call them an assymetrical FILIGREE!!

One of my goals for next year is getting more good pics of my filework and getting them up on my website.

Wishing everyone the best this holiday season,

Neil
