so here's what I'm working on at the moment

6-22-11-wip.jpg

a couple recurve bowies (both are order knives)
a BIG Atlanta Toothpick (what, I aint in Texas am I??) 13" blade of W2 awesomeness
another gyuto - about 260mm 52100
and a couple smallish fighters, one brut de forge recurve and the other a slim fighter

Thanks for checking in
Stephan

Great looking work! But that big one in the middle is just plain awesome looking, can't wait to see it finished!

not great,

I didn't pass my J.S.
stray scratches and a pretty bad grinder mark

I'm going to pick the best knife from this batch (probably the toothpick) and hold it back for Atl next year.
If I make an extra really good knife each month then by next April I will be able to bring a good selection to Batson's and get feedback.

that was my major failing, I didn't take the time to have a M.S. look at them until the night before.

Thanks for sharing that Stephan! Maybe some of us someday-sometime-wannabees might be able to learn from your efforts.

That is some bad news Stephan. It is not the end of the world my friend. I know that you have it in you to pass that inspection with flying colors. Maybe, just maybe those lights in Atlanta are a tad brighter than the lights in your shop. Sometimes when I think I have one finished to perfection, someone will say "Is that a scratch?

One reason I never pursued the JS is that I can't see for crap and I make all my knives by "flashlight" :)

You can, and will do it. Hope to see you again soon.

Robert

Sorry to hear it and thanks for sharing the details.

This latest batch looks good. I am really liking that Gyuto.

those are some tough licks to take Stephan, but a fella I know would say this; "Wisdom and Experience are built of bricks made from the mud of Failure"
Keep on keepin on!

Lookin good Stephen. Keep your head up my friend. You're still on your way.

Well, I sure didn't mean to rub salt in the wound... I really expected good news. And I derailed the OP in the process. :o :foot:

Back on topic, I really like what you have started here Stephan! :)
