With my wife and kids out of town for a week visiting in-laws, I had a very productive weekend:

First a completed a couple of carving fork restoration projects:

First is the spalted maple burl fork:

Second is the redwood burl fork:

They both started as:

I also finished two gyuto's.

First one is a 240mm(ish) wa-gyuto in AEB-L with a redwood burl and African blackwood handle.

Next was a Western handled gyuto with cocobolo handle and stainless bolster:

good looking pieces. was the maple from your yard or store bought? do you know of any tutorials on making the handle for the wa-gyuto?

Thanks! :) The spalted maple was owner supplied, so I'm not sure where it was from. I'm sure there is a tutorial, but I don't recall where I saw it.

Great looking Western Gyuto... Nice profile

Thanks...I worked on my "standard" gyuto profile a long time before I made my first one. It's a combination, really, of my two favorite gyuto profiles. A Shigefusa being the major contributor.

The shape of the handle on the western reminded me of the handle on my Shigefusa.
