I love this knife. It is a great design. Is there any chance BM will ever make a longer version? The handle's ergos feel so cramped. I like everything about the design but it just needs to be spread out more.

If the 300sn is made longer, it will have to be slimmed down. I could not imagine carrying a big knife that is that chunky.

I'm with you on that. That's what I said when I first saw it. Love the design and look but needs to be a little larger. Slightly longer blade and handle. Something in the 3.5" - 4" blade range. Now that would be awesome...

Just got mine today and i love the short and stout design. The handle is a tad short but the thickness makes up for that, to me anyway

Cool to hear the love. I don't own one, but I've played with one and really liked it. I was kinda bummed when it came out around the time of the Southard (which I also love) and a lot of people were dissing the Benchmade flipper.

How would a larger, heavier blade differ in the flipping action? Heavy blades seem to flip harder to me than lighter ones, all other things being equal, but I wonder how it might work without the advantage of a detent.

It's a sweet little knife. I carried an original, limited run, for about a year. However, when in pocket, it takes up a lot of space, because of the width. You can pretty much count on only using that pocket for the knife.
A larger one?! I think it would be uncomfortable to carry.

Held one of these today at my local Benchmade dealer. I don't care for flippers but it wasn't near as chunky as I thought that it would be.

I bought one shortly after they came out, and it was one of my first flippers. I really dig it, but it definitely is a bit "stout" and does pretty much consume whatever pocket (usually front-left jeans pocket) it's in. I think elongating it would translate to an entirely different vibe, because yes, it really would need to be slimmed down somewhat. At that point, it wouldn't have much in common with the 300SN as it is today. Now, if there is another Ball design along those lines . . .

The 300sn was one of the best designed flippers I have used. I love mine and would never sell it. I would LOVE a larger model, and not slimmed down, the design makes a great hard use folder.

as it is the 300 requires some wrist to get it to totally flip cause the blade is to short for its weight. I still love my 300SN though dont mind the wrist it involves but it sure would be something for a slightly longer version to come out with the blade weight better balanced and a slightly stronger detent so one could actually make it flip open without using wrist. Hell throw in a bearing pivot and BM would have their version of the ZT 0801. As it is I still love using my 300. The ergos are very good and give great control over the chunky blade but still it just doesnt truly flip on its own

Glad you like it. I will say myself and many others have no problem opening with no wrist flick at all. I do wish it had bearings though.

The one I tried at a Army/Navy store in Bakersfield required no wrist flip. It could be the pivot or the technique, but it was pretty smooth. Different, but nice.

guess Ill try polishing the washers. Im plenty experienced with flippers but just cant get the 300 down without some wrist. Messing with my 300 right now...yep gonna polish the washers should help a good bit. Still love the ergos of the knife and the thick jimping on the thumb ramp really helps dig into heavier cutting tasks. Still a version 1 eighth longer with bearings and a slightly stronger detent would slay

I've got one on the way from Benchmade so this thread is relative to my interests...

Can't wait to get it. Sadly, it won't show up until after my camping trip this weekend. :(

Maybe if there is enough demand for it we will see such a knife. Benchmade has a knife now with bearings so thats a start. ;)
