Hi,

I just pulled the trigger on a little folder by Butch Beaver on Nordic (they have a new arrival, including 2 Ashley Forge FYI). Can anyone tell me something about this maker? The name is very familiar but that's about it...

Thanks,

JD

Butch is a long time Knifemaker Guild member who in recent years has come an gone from the knifemaking field Not sure if he is still making. His wife Judy did the engraving and coloring of titanium on many of his knives.

this is a Butch/Judy combo

and this folder is from Stan Fujisaka with Judy's adornment

both are ones Phyllis owns.

at one time they had moved East but I have lost their current location. Others can probably help.

I once lost a bid on eBay for one of Butch's knives. I remeber being REALLY peeved that I bungled it. Nice work.
Last address listed as in Phoenix, AZ. (Knives 1999)

I don't know if Butch still makes knives or not. At one point I had heard that he moved to Tennesse. Stan Fujisaka gets a lot of engraving done by Butch's wife, Judy. I have no current contact info.

Those are really great looking knives...Boy did I get the wrong impression of the thread title

As I remember Ashley forge was Hough Bartung, a top maker and one of the good guys, about 20 yars ahead of his time. He suffered a stroke and we all lost.

Yes, Hugh Bartrug was clearly a pioneer. I have long admired his work in the Weyer books.
