Butcher Knife Conversion Fat Blade Refurbish

I made this from an old butcher knife I found my basement. Leather shoelace pic was a prototype/temporary handle.

Blade is now 3.25" long, 2" wide.

I like the way a fatter blade can be handled and stabilized. I find it odd that it is so rare to find a fat bladed knife. With the back of the blade being flat, you can hold the knife at more angles, and can use it for splitting small pieces of wood etc.

Handle made out of Oak? Not sure- I picked up scraps from a high-end woodworking company.

Thoughts?
Should I cut anything else out of the blade to make a multi-function design? (Bottle opener, etc)

I think that is pretty slick. Good job!

thanks

Anyone know of other good pieces to refurbish? I saw someone make a knife out of an old wrench.
Pros / Cons of using certain materials. - Such as temper / quality of old kitchen / butcher knives?

hey if the guy wants to shorten a cleaver and it gives him a tool he likes, more power to him! It's not like he made a Stradivarius viola into a mandolin, jeez

This reminds me of a knife I built. It was a short cleaver I fashioned out of some scrap stainless. Mine was very crude and primitive in design . It cut through frozen fish bait like no ones business. I'm gonna dig it out of the garage. It needs to see daylight once again. I dig your knife.

would like to see it.

mine has been working pretty well. Easy to hold close to the blade. I've used it lightly as a chisel for certain things.
