Butchering wild game with a Tomahawk!!!

Nifty! I've used an ax for field dressing -- works like a big awkward ulu with the handle, but it works; also great for splitting the breastbone and severing the pelvis on large game (moose). If I had only one cutting tool to choose from, it would be a Hudson's Bay single bit. However, I find an ax plus a good drop-point hunting knife a handier combination.

Hi,

Mean looking spike on the Tomahawk, great job on skinning the deer.

Anybody has a chance doing a comparisson using a GB Hunter axe, with the rounded poll it should be verry easy to remove the skin without risking cutting in the musscles, also the "rounded" front part of the blade should help here. I don't know for sure but I guess the edge of the GB Hunter is also a lot thinner then that of the Tomahawk, but still it should withstand cutting the breastbone/pelvis.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bag...you are probably right on the GB. Cleaning and caping with poll Hawks was indeed common place for a loooooong time.

The Vietnam Tactical Tomahawk can be certainly be outperformed in the "ease of skinning department" by some thin, well sharpened, small Hatchets.

However, the fact that the VTac was used to cape a Whitetail just demonstrated the versatility of the design. I should also add that Trigger did use the sharpened beard in some instances, like a gut hook.

...with all the other things the VTac used for, like breeching, porting, digging, chopping, cutting, throwing, etc.., and ALL without product failure, it was just really cool to see it used for wild game.
