I've seen photos of the butt caps with their assemblies (courtesy of John Powell), but never on an H.I. khukuri. Does anyone have a link to a real nice antero-posterior view? Thanks Dan

What does it look like before it's mounted? Is it solid? Does H.I. offer options as to various designs? I've hear of the six pinned butt-cap on certain H.I. khukuries, but have only seen lateral photos showing scroll word.

Here's a not very clear pic, but you get the idea.

I think this must be a village model.
Most look more polished.
Also looks like there are a couple of nails
rather than peened tang,
but if you think of it polished and smoothed you get the idea.

I think most of us wish they were a bit thicker,
from what you see in the lateral views.

I'll try to find a better pic.

What's a six pinned one look like? No I will not leave myself open for the obvious, the same as the one pinned one, but with 5 more pins. How are the pins arranged? Thanks again, Dean

Huh?

The Kobras have a triple tang coming thru the buttplate, of which two may be cosmetic IIRC but I must have been somewhere else the day the 6 pinned thing came along.

Then again I went to the store today to get something, and now I wonder if I got it.

By the way, looking at the handle assembly, the large brass piece on the bottom is the butt-plate. The smaller brass "eye" or "diamond" in the middle is called the keeper, and reinforces the butt-plate for the steel tang's center to be mushroomed/swaged/rivetted over onto. Maybe peened is the word I should have used.

Here's a better pic of a 18" Gelbu Special buttcap.

Rusty... I'd be interested in seeing a 3 pinned tang and a 6 tinned tang before the butt-cap is mounted. And, I'd like to propose a 12 pinned tang for the special order on Monday. :D I wonder what Bura would say? eek: How do you say %£?çç @#é*%$ %4 in Nepali? :p

Rusty... agreed agreed agreed agreed I'd just like to see the butt-cap placed down on a flat surface. I'd like to see it flipped over on the other side. I'd like to see it placed on its side, and shot are various angles. I'd like to be able to conceptualize what it looks like in a 3D model. It's difficult hanging out here in cyberspace. :( But, one day soon, I'll even get to hold a khukuri in my hands, even though it might be some time before I can do likewise with all of its individual components. :D

Dean... To the rescue again. Were you ever a lifeguard per chance?
Thanks; you have an uncanny ability to pull rabbits out of hats. :)

In attachment #2... Who's the guy with the receding hairline with a solar keratosis lesion on his nose, and taking a photograph with a Kyocera Finecam S4? ;) Is that a mirrored finish or is it just the photo? :D :D
