I've enjoyed the "butt ugly knife" thread elsewhere on the ShopTalk forum and have a suggestion.... Each year at the Blade Show there should be an "Butt Ugly" contest. Makers would be limited to one entry, preferably the first knife they ever made. All entries would be displayed together and a "Butt Ugly Award" would go to the ugliest knife.
I think people might get a good laugh from it and it would also make them appreciate just how much skill it takes to make a really good knife.
