This is one ugly blade. this is my Butt ugly shop knife. Double edged, 4" blade 7 3/4' OAL
5160 with Natural Linen micarta handle. Finished to an amazing 36 grit
with all kinds of mistakes thrown in for free! Make no mistake it is
sharp as can be. I am making a kydex sheath for it. .

one of my good friends and KNIFE ABUSER extrodinaire is the HPD armorer.....he is the only person I know of who has ever broken one of my knives in the middle of the blade....wanted a new one (it was his work knife)....I made it with mismatched micarta scales, put my logo on backwards....finished it to 60 grit.......and wrote "Mr Ugly" in VERY crude script on the micarta handle!! He has it to this day and its still in one piece after about 5 years!!

Tom,
I use this one every day. I will tell you 5160 with the rightHeat Treat & Tempering is some TOUGH stuff. I took one of my test blades and hammered it half way thru a 1/2" bolt (No not a SAE8 bolt). It didn't break, gaul or relly loose much of it's edge.

I took the very first Himalayan Import's differentially hardened AK Bowie knife over to Lynn Griffith's place when Richard, Chief, Lynn and myself done some testing on different knives quite some time ago.

I used a vice to cut through a 3/8" carriage bolt with the HI Bowie with little edge deformation and with a bit of work with a chakma (Nepali steel and fire striker) I had in my pocket brought the edge back to scary sharp.
All of the HI Khukuri's and other knives are made from old Mercedes Benz Truck springs which are purported to be 5160 steel. I know they're some of the toughest knives I have ever used.

Here's the URL for the tests we done.

And this is the URL that has a pic of the HI AK Bowie affectionatley known by the HI Forumite's as the HI Bird and Trout Knife.
