Butter and Molasses show

Nice one, Cal!! Here's one I dearly loved, but sold because I have a proven fear of Celluloid!! (Having lost a couple of knives at the time to the deadly off-gassing!!)
This one came from the Schrade collection, when they closed their doors!!
(I do miss it!! )

Cell just needs a 'safe space' :D or rather, non Cells need it even more if in close proximity .

Joking apart, it can be really impressive stuff, many a boy and girl long ago at Christmastime must've been thrilled to get a knife in this beautiful, magical material

Is this thread OK for all types of Cell or just Butter & Molasses ??

Thanks, Will

I just have one. It's holding up okay, but lives out on a shelf, can't be trusted in a box with other knives.

Thanks, Will. I have noticed that with all the celluloid knives I've owned (at least 2 dozen), the only ones that have outgassed have been German knives from the 1970s and '80s. Nothing newer, and nothing older, and I have many that are 80-100 years old with no degradation.

If you keep that knife away from its enemies, heat, light and humidity/moisture, and give it a little breathing room, it will NOT outgas. That would not be true for some examples of celluloid, but yours is going to be just fine (see above).

Thank you for the reassurance! I’ve been debating for a while now about rehandling it, despite the fact that I love the butter and molasses!

This one has some definite corrosion on the sheepsfoot..where it sits outside the handle..apart from that...no sign of degradation...Looking at all the photos it would be fair to say the most appealing thing is that no two are same.

There’s always the possibility it could gas, but it may never happen. Look how many years it’s been around and is still in wonderful shape. Rehandling is a last resort when the writing is on the wall, but your knife looks to be far from there.
