I have a Buck Folding Omni Hunter 10PT that will only sharpen to the level of butter knife(pun).I'm using a Lansky Sharpner on the 20 degree hole and after hours of swiping the stone across that blade I have gave up.What am I doing wrong.Thank you for any advice.

You should be cutting butter. :D

Seriously, try the sharpie trick. That will allow you to see if you are actually hitting the edge or if you are in effect reprofiling your knife.

I like the "burr check" better. If you don't feel that burr before moving to the other side, your knife won't be sharp.

You are using push strokes with the stones, right? I've seen more than one person using a guided stone set and they were sliding the stones sideways along the blade instead of pushing the stones toward the spine.

Both serve a similar but different purpose. The "sharpie trick" tells you where you're sharpening in relation to the angle of the edge currently on the knife... the "burr check" tells you that you've reached and set the very edge.
