To make a short story long, I went online last night to order a "Camillus combo" of the BK7 and 154 CM EDC. Unfortunately, the only place I could find both at a decent price didn't take American Express - kinda like the olympics...

Although I already own a Delica and Endura, excellent cutters I use daily, I prefer a little more weight to the scales. (I liked the "feel" of the KFF, but my teenage son (also into being prepaired) really liked the KFF, so he has it now.

Anyway, I've liked and "played" with the BM710HS, and several other BM models, and decided that I could get the Camillus pair next month, but I just had to get something now - is it always this way once you start?

So I was all the way to "place order" on a site that did take AMEX, and couldn't get the BM690 out of my mind. Anyway, I ended up backing out and ordering the BM690 - I really like the "feel" of the combo scales.

This is addictive as CRACK. I told the friend that turned me on to Blade Forums that he should be in jail for "pushing."

Anyway, anyone with experience with the BM690?;)

I have 2 of them, the standard 690 and the 690-01 with carbon fibre/ivory scales. I like the contrast between the wood scales, the carbon fibre and the blue liners. Great looking knife! The lockup is solid on both my samples and the workmanship is excellent. I've never had the opportunity to see one of Allen Elishewitz's custom models, but I was told the 690 comes very close. Since Allen is no longer involved with Benchmade, you'll notice that recent models do not have the Elishewitz logo on the right side of the blade. Nevertheless, the 690 is a classy looking solid folder.

The 690 is great, but keep in mind that the stabilized wood rarely will look like what you see in photos.

It's not nearly as deep, and it needs a bit of sanding/polishing to make it look really nice. Also, the carbon fibre is not coated, so it's matte. Lastly, the stabilized wood scratches REALLY easily. We're talking about getting minor scuffs sitting in my jeans pocket for one day, nothing else in the pocket.

On the other hand, it's simply gorgeous.
So much so that I can't bear to carry it around *sigh*....
