I am looking to buy a knife off of blade play but it says i cannot buy the blade because it is restricted and give me 4 options to choose from. If anyone has any knowlage on this and help me choose the right one it would be appreciated.

It says you cannot order it but then gives you 4 options? What are those options? Are the "exceptions" of some kind? I can tell you with certainty that butterfly knives are legal own in Illinois (carry is a separate matter), so I am confused why they would say such a thing.

It says it is a restricted item that it cannot be shipped because it is an "automatic blade" which doesn't make sense to me

I couldn't find any such language in Bladeplay's "Terms and Conditions". The statement and 4 options you are referring to, does it only appear when you go to checkout on an order you have placed?

Can you provide a link to the statement and 4 options?

I've ordered two switchblades from Bladeplay and I never received any message saying I couldn't have them, nor was I asked to choose from any options.

This is word for word

"Auto law & Legal Status Terms IN COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL STATUTES:
U.S. Federal law prohibits shipment of automatic knives across state lines, with the following exceptions:
(1) to civilian or Armed Forces supply or procurement officers and employees of the Federal Government ordering, procuring, or purchasing such knives in connection with the activities of the Federal Government;
(2) to supply or procurement officers of the National Guard, the Air National guard, or militia of a state, territory or the District of Columbia ordering, procuring, or purchasing such knives in the connection with the activities of such organization;
(3) to supply or procurement officers or employees of the municipal government of the District of Columbia or the government of any State or Territory, or any county, city or other political subdivision of a State or Territory;
(4) to manufacturers of such knives or bona fide dealers therein in connection with any shipment made pursuant of an order from any person designated in paragraphs (1), (2), and (3)."

What i dont get is that a butterfly knife is not a automatic knife is it??

Is Bladeplay actually asking you to choose one of those, as in, clicking on a box next to one of them, or something like that?

As long as the Bladeplay website is not preventing you from placing an order, then I would suggest placing the order and see what happens. The worst that will happen is that they won't fill the order. Or, they will fill the order and you get the knife.

I don't meet any of the requirements you listed, and I received the switchblades I ordered.

Online knife retailers will often put references to the law and other legal mumbo jumbo on their websites, but it's just for appearances.

Killgar's right, just order it and see what happens. It might even be a glitch since balisongs are not autos.

And I will level with you: That legal stuff with Blade Play is all rubbish (2 and 3 are not actually part of the federal law). They have no legal department or at least none with any real understanding of federal law. They routinely violate federal law with their sales practices, they just don't get caught. That law is almost unenforceable with commerce inside the US, and federal law enforcement just don't care enough to do a complex sting operation over some novelty knives that aren't used in crimes (criminals much prefer disposable kitchen knives). More to the point, the federal law is their problem, not yours. The law only affects the seller.

You can legally carry a bali in Illinois. I dunno about Chicago, they have some crazy rules.
