There is a bali forum..and a knife laws forum....since we are here though....no not legal to carry for sure. Not sure on just owning....I got lazy. There is case law in your state upholding balis and butterfly knives as illegal weapons. Mind ya I'm no weapons lawyer. ...and i found this via Google on case law which you could do on your own and read more...and you should. Never trust a knucklehead like me.

As far as state level I believe they are legal due to case laws so they were removed from being restricted. Now for city law I also believe they only enforce a blade length limit. I would call your local PD or look up the city ordinance or open carry it in a sheath. I'm not a law pro and I would recommend you do your own research and make your own decisions. I live in richmond and I've carried butterfly's , bowies, hawks and never a problem ...I do let LEO know what I have asap just so there are no surprises, but since I stay outta trouble and these encounters have mostly been during traffic stops I've never had a LEO just stop me for my knife you gotta give them a reason to stop and search ya.

Jbmonkey....may also be right all it takes is 1 case and a law will change in va it seems .
