So to start, im a new guy here, im not big into knives or anything, i occasionally carry a knife but usually only carry my leatherman wingman.

I have started wanting to get into flipping but i dont know where to even begin.

I know i need a good knife but all i know of are benchmades that are good and im not ready to spend 250-300$ yet. For 2 reasons, idk if its something ill want to stick with, and i dont really have that kind of cash just laying around, now if i really liked it id save up for a good higher quality one but idk yet.

Now i dont want some cheap junk thats just going to fall apart though i want it to be decently made but just below that benchmade price point, if such a thing even exist.

The problem with Bali's is that it is such a niche market, many companies don't want to spend the money on CNC equipment, molds etc for a production total of say 5,000.

So to start off, I'll give you the basic run down of bali price brackets.

Entry Level: $65-100 (used - new, roundabouts, you can find exceptions if you look hard enough)
Bradley Kimura (produced by Kershaw)
Bear Ops B200
Nathan Dewey Fiend

Mid Level: $130-300(used/new)
BM 62
BM 51
Bm 32,53 & Bradley Mayhem (not suggested for flipping, more EDC)
FTWCM custom
Spyderco Spyderfly (Disco'd and supposedly still under recall)

Higher Echelon: $500++
Customs

Obviously there are more, but most (Tachyon, Basilisk, Spyderfly, AlphaBeast etc) are either incredibly hard to get or discontinued.

Best bet, get a kimi, holds it's resale value and a lot of people seem to like it.

so kimura or bear ops b200 are the best choices for a beginner? then move onto a benchmade once im more serious and better trainer at it?

Yes, but I would suggest the Kimi over the bear ops. There were some complaints a while back when It came out that the G10 handles were too light and the tang cups deformed too much from the tang pins.

Better yet, take a look at the Bali subforum here

And make good use of the search function in the top right hand side for better/more opinions and tests of these particular knives. Most importantly have fun

Allot of opinions. kimura is the biggest bang for the buck. i see no reason to have to go to a benchmade. the kimuras are that good. if you want to thats fine......but its not a have to do.

do a google search for kimura blemish or blem. about half the price of a new kimura and every bit as good for a user.

Not to be a dick but that was alot of typos, but i got what you were saying and ill go try that right now, and we all got a little knife nut in us, if you like something you cant help but want multiple.

True. Sorry typing on a phone.

Sure multiples are not a bad thing. Was just saying the kimuras are very good.......I like mine better than my benchmades, but I am not a pro flipper and my opinion will vary from most bali guys. In the end if you go with a kimura you will have a great flipper, imho.

"Not to be a dick" but...you have over 25 spelling and grammar errors in your first post.

ill never be a pro, its just going to be a time killer because i dont got much to do while im at home

"Not to be a dick" but... If you are going to call someone out on spelling, you shouldn't make a post like that. Come on now bro. 7 typo's in one sentence.

1 and 2) ill should be I'll.
3) its should be it's. it's is the contracted form of it is.
4) i should be I.
5) dont should be don't. Contracted form.
6 and 7) im should be I'm. contracted form of I am.

Same idea here. alot= a lot. i=I ill=I'll cant=can't multiple should be plural. Also, this is a prime example of a run on sentence.

If you are going to point out spelling mistakes, you should make sure that your posts do not contain any.

Edit:
Saying "Just saying...", "Not to be a dick...", "JK JK JK" doesn't excuse the fact that you are in fact being a dick :P.

Get a Kimura.
Best bang for your buck when it comes to balisongs.
Unless you could find an Mtech Twist(best CCC bali in my opinion.)
I normally see them go for like $50 now though and you'd be better off just saving the extra $40 and getting a Bradley Kimura.
=]

The Kimura is definitely excellent value for what it is and what I'd recommend for a new flipper too! I strongly recommend taping the blade though: they are scary sharp out of the box.

Thanks for mentioning me! Here is my latest greatest.

I was in your shoes about a year ago. I decided I wanted to learn how to flip and scoured the internet for a few weeks researching different knives. I decided on a Kimura 4 for $90 I think I paid and haven't regretted it for a second.

Regardless, that was pretty unnecessary. You didn't even post a single thing that had anything to do with the topic at hand.

So what makes the kimura better then the bear ops b200? Just curious.
