i am very interested into learning the art of balisong. i got this knife know that i like but the metal sides where the hinges are are starting to flare apart and crack apart. is this because i am doing something wron or just the quality of the knife? also i am interested in buying a decent knife but i dont know where to get one or what kind can someone please help me

I'm happy that you are interested in the Balisong!
Definitly tape up the blade or just get a practice balisong, to prevent any nasty cuts on your fingers or on you feet!
What kind of balisong did you get?
Well, enjoy!

xzibit1,

If you really want a decent balisong knife get a Benchmade. Although it's hard to find now a days, you can always check Chuck's website. Sometimes he sells them along with other good quality ones. Here' the URL www.4cs.net/~gollnick

Hey XZIBIT1,

Yeah, thats the down side to being a Balisong fanatic......... If you play too much, they fall apart.

Here are a few sites with affordable Balisongs (I.E.- they aren't so expensive that you FREAK everytime you drop one). My Bali of choice at the moment is the Jaguar silver skeleton handle model, found on KnifeZilla, and Dragon Forge.

www.knifezilla.com
http://www.dragon-forge.com/jaguar.html
http://www.tiac.net/users/knives/Butterfly.htm

I have purchased from all of the above, without any problems. KnifeZilla has the best overall selection. Dragon forge has two good quality Jags (price is right too). The third (discount knives) is mostly "lower end" Balis.

Rommel is right about the Benchmades..... If you can find 'em, get 'em.

.........as for your ailing Balisong, check out my "Tip of the week" page in the archive section to see if there's a fix:
http://www.balisongxtreme.com/baliplanet2/tip.htm
The link to the archive will be on the left.

And along with Chuck, and Palacio's sites (previous post) also make sure you check out (Sniperboy) Susan's page:
http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~soo/balisong/balisong.html

It will tell you a lot about the makes and models you'll find at KnifeZilla, Dragon Forge, and Discount knives....... it might help ease your decision making.

GOOD LUCK!.........and let us know how ya' do.
