How good are they durability and longevity wise? Im thinking of getting something like that but idk what are good models and how good they are they look like they would be easily used though.

Good to see you again. We have met before, haven't we?

Whose button locks are you talking about?

Added a bit to my last post, there is a less expensive model with the same lock, the EX03. You can find it for around $100.

Well...my apologies. I could have sworn we had met here quite a few times before. Oh well...get old and the mind starts going.

A cheap knife with a cheaper button lock will have a cheaper button lock. That's true with any lock. The less you spend, the less you get. They are not the same quality across the board.

you prob have i just dont recall the name, didnt mean to come off the wrong way.

2 of the worst locks ive ever used werent on really cheap knives, blackhawk crucible 2 liner was nearly impossible to get it since they gave you no cutout for it and sog spec elite has up and down play right out the box.

My cold steel ti lite has a ton of up and down play now since i wave it out my pocket a lot.

These 'lock strength tests' kill me. In what kind of situation would I find myself pushing down on my handle for a prolonged period of time with constant pressure? I guess maybe if I took a hammer and pounded my folding knife into some hardwood then decided to hang on it. Just seems relatively pointless. I've never bought or sold a knife due to the results of these 'tests'.

I never even watch tests usually. I just like that solid no blade play feel. My last couple purchases got sold or returned due to not having it.

Agreed, but I posted the links to show that the button locks are comparable in strength to most other locks on the market. The OP had questions about the strength and durability of the design.

I hear ya whet...I'm not saying I don't enjoy seeing a knife fail :) I just believe it misleads some people looking for 'the toughest lock'.

I just posted this is two other threads on the subject, but here again I'll state that i own and use heavily a de-assisted Gerber Propel - Made in USA, button-lock, cheaper than Hogue but probably not as nice F&F-wise. The lock works, hasn't failed me yet, but I've only been beating on it for a few months so cannot comment on longevity yet.

Well said Fetzer, and again I agree. Also the spine whack "tests" fall into the category of things i don't care about at all when buying a knife.

My experience with the Hogue button locks has been great, don't think it would ever fail you under normal use (unless you define normal as hammering a knife into something and hanging a bunch of weight from the handle). ;)

Chiral.grolim it appears we have been following each other around the forum posting about this topic today :)
