Buy a 2000mm belt in USA?

Hi!

I hope this is an acceptable category for my question.

I’m planning to build a belt grinder (something like a 2x27”) that can be used in both Europe and USA. Now, when I have a pretty clear picture of the design, I realise that it could be hard to fit the biggest attachments (300mm (12”) contact wheel and the platen attachment) with a 72” belt. Since I am from Europe, I only had a 2000mm belt in mind when I did the design. My question is therefore, how hard is it to buy a 2000mm belt in America? Would it be a deal-breaker for a customer if the grinder wouldn’t be capable with a 72” belt?

Thanks in advance!

You can get many stock sizes of belts, as well as getting any size you want from manufacturers like Klingspor.

When using a large wheel, or small wheels, some folks use longer and shorter belts. A 60" belt will fit a 2X72 when runnuing a small wheel fork arm. A 90" belt will work when using a 18" contact wheel.

Contact TruGrit, they are a real industrial supplier for abrasives to many industries. They can help you with custom sizes and are not limited by a few belts type in stock

Thanks for all good answers! As erik markman says, I will try to make the grinder capable with both belt sizes. However, if that isn’t possible, I know the alternatives when it comes to belt manufacturers. Thanks!

I am not sure if Erik did this, but at least one of his friends, Claude Bouchonville, built a KMG style grinder but made it a little bit bigger for use with 2000mm belts.

You folks are overthinking this.

There is no reason you can't run a 50X2000mm belt on a standard 2X72 grinder. The belt in inches is 2X78.75". That would only need the arm slid out about 3 inches to make it fit. Just switching from a 12" wheel to a small wheel requires more adjustment than that. At the very most, you might want to make a 4" longer tool arm, but the standard arm should be more than long enough.

Claude made his for 2500 belts.
Stock kmg takes 2000 mm.
