Hi All, This is to show off my new open spine BWM sheath I received today, tan kydex w/ sage and black micarta, and to show a trick that I'm sure I'm not the first person to figure out.

I travel a lot for work, and I'm lucky enough to have a job where carrying and using a big knife is "sort of" normal (surveying), mostly in Alaska but I end up in WA, OR, LA, VA, CA, and next week Cape Cod MA and most of the coast of Maine up to Canada over the next month.

So here's my "trick" to keep my knives in Buy Brown sheaths.... literally... and to keep them from slicing up my bags, without the bulk of a padded knife carrier.
I would only use good zip-ties with the steel tooth though.

And some more gratuitous Brown sheath shots.... The S5 sheath was free by the way from one of David's contests. :D but sadly no Talon hole...

Thanks For Looking! and Thanks David!

I do the same thing with BB sheaths when transporting them. If I ship a knife that uses a BB sheath, I do it as well. Works out great.

Good idea that knifes not going anywhere, about as secure as it gets.

Nice secure way to ship a blade and sheath without the need for excessive tape (the way I do it).

I'm sure i've seen something similar using a bit of paracord through the hole. It allowed the user to thread the hole then pull the knife back slightly to take a better 'bite' on the hole.

Can you strap a open spine sheath to pack to still use if needed, without a tie?I mean can you strap to pack while still being able to draw if needed.

That'll work. There are some sheaths with a slide lock (RAT RC-5 for example) that accomplishes the same thing. Did you drill that hole or was it already there?

That drilled hole is my signature thing has been for years.

A long time customer/friend Papathud about 10 years ago asked if I could drill a hole that lines up with the talon hole so that you could thread para-cord through the two thus securing the knife in the sheath.

I did & it became my signature on Busse sheaths.

A regular non-exposed spine sheath would work better & be safer. :)

Ah yes, I forgot about the hole on the Busse's. Nice touch.

+1 The first thing I did was attach the open spine sheath to the side of a Maxped Sitka, The bag was too narrow to allow good access and the knife and the snap on the retention strap could get caught on branches etc.

From your response David, Ill stick with a taco style non exposed sheath...

O ya and I've emailed you few more times:D

THANK YOU LVC!! I've been wanting to get some of those aircraft cable keychains for a while, and I forgot where I saw them for sale. I've been wanting to grab some various other little stuff from countycomm anyway, so it was perfect timing.

i bought a standard pocket prybar (after seeing 230grains post), a blue swivel led, and a ring. kinda wish I had gotten a couple of the rings now...

got them today, and they are all awesome. Now gonna have to purchase the pock-its case I saw on there. I might be able to get away with carrying a set of edgepro stones and leatherman+bitkit in one case.
