Can anyone tell me why sometimes when I try logging in to bladeforums I get "hijacked" to this buydomains web site? It usually goes away after a while, but is really irritating.

Thanks.

It's fine for me when I log on. Could be some sort of spyware or adware in your computer taking you to the wrong site. That happened to a couple of computers here at work--but usually it would take the people to a porn site. I remember for that one I had the registry had been changed and I had to go in and edit it.

Are you typing in the Bladeforums address correctlhy in your browser's address bar? A lot of low-lives will buy up the miss-spelled domain names of popular web sites so if you miss a vowel when typing in your favorite website you end up in their clutches.

If, on the other hand you have Bladeforums bookmarked and still occasionally get missdirected, then you must have spyware/scumware on your PC, as Zenghost has already pointed out.

Get yourself a copy of Ad-aware or Spybot Search and destroy (or both) pronto. If you need help finding these fine pieces of software just go to www.google.com and do a search.

Knew I forgot to mention that...you can find both of these at PC World under downloads-->utilities. Adaware is usually at the top of the list with Spybot seek and destroy isn't usually far behind. I think Spybot S&D does a better job with this type of thing than Adaware, but I usually run both.

Spybot was further behind than I thought... this is a direct link to the page.

Spybot is a great suggestion. It will clean up spyware, pop-ups and other imbedded nasties that can wreak the type of havoc you describe. Download it, it's free, and could solve your problem. Even if it doesn't, it'll solve others. :)

I had a page-jacking spyware infection before. I ran CWshredder in conjunction with Spybot and Adaware and it cleared up.

I read a review of AdAware and Spybot once, and it said that each did better than the other at some specific tasks. They're both free, get 'em both and run 'em.

FWIW, Spybot is MUCH faster than AdAware, so if you want to run one every day, that's the one I would pick.
