Hope it's not out of line to ask this on the HI forum (if so, feel free to moderate me the h*ll outta here...)
I've found two places (online) to buy khukris from, that are located in europe, due to import taxes, customs fees etc it's not practical to buy from the US.

http://www.toratoratora.co.uk
http://www.heinnie.com/cgi-bin/heinnie_store/web_store.cgi?page=FRATOTAB/knives.htm&cart_id=

Has anyone here any experience from their products? Are they any good? Heinnie Haynes claim to sell authentic british service models. Comments?
All british (and other european) khukri users, where do you buy your blades?

Thankful for anything that could make my decision easier.
//peace Karl.

I tell you what mate - I have been buying HI khuks for 3 years now and with the blems Uncle puts up you dont end up paying much customs and I have bought about 10 or 15 and the majority of the time customs dont even charge me !!

Buy the best mate - its worth it !!

no problem with your post, kalleS.....as long as you don't mind us doing our best to persuade you to "buy the best" as Brendan put it....:D

There are 2 other companies I can think of that sell in Europe, but I have a hard time recommending either.

It's kind of like buying your ice cream cone from the guy in the park scooping it out of the bucket on his lap....it has a cone, has cream, but is it the same? worth it?

You'll have to make the call.

Uncle Bill has to declare the value, but if you buy one and Bill sends one to me and I ship it to you as a gift...well, then....;)

I don't mind favors for new guys....

but not for Brendan...he's hordin' his stash....greedy lil....:eek: :D

:p

Munk did a review on a Tora blade earlier this year I think. I forget what model it was though. I think he gave it a good rating. I'm too lazy to search for it right now.

I have ordered several HI blems or UBBB's, I am an impoverished student but the deals tend to roughly nullify the postage. They always arrive remarkably promptly and in good nick, basically it is well worth going for HI, in fact with the strong pound you get a hell of a deal ordering fromthe UK.

I think just about every khuk maker short of CS says that. Caveat emptor.

HI is iron-clad in their guarantee of their khuks, there's actual humans doing this stuff.

Kohei can probably speak better to the Torah UK stuff.

Me, I'm an HI loyalist. Spread the love, buy a few fer friends and family.

Betch can't buy just one, although one is all most humans really need...

Thanks for all the replys! I read munks review, I think it was on the "British service" model, and one on the WWII model. They seem pretty decent to me. But I'm new to khukris.
The fact that HI are thicker make me favor them. Also the guarantie speeks for a more indestructible knife...

pendentive: We'r not trying to get ourselfs a free khukri, now are we??
;) ;) Seriously, thats a mighty fine offer. I just might take you up on it!
I emailed the swedish customs department, asking what rules would apply if somebody sends me knife as a "gift". Sweden has proboply stricter rules than the UK about importing knives.
I'll get back as soon as I know more... Thanks again!

Peace!

The Tora link you posted also leads to thier forum.

My HI foxy cost 99$ but postage was another $20 & customs hit me for another $60 which nearly doubled the intial outlay.

Where thier are no duty charges within the eec!
{Your doing well Brendan , They hit me evry time! Normaly they are picked up by the metal detectors & once they pick them up, they open them & then they charge you!}}

Hi are especialy renown for big , heavy strong models, Toras duplicate the antique military ones which are generaly slimmer. I like both.

But must admit personaly I prefer the real old military antiques! Not modern ones!

I think both companies sell kukris of good quality.
