Hey guys! I'm looking to buy a Buck Crosslock from Cabelas Canada.
The Regular Crosslock is $82.99 (Canadian) and the Alaskan Guide Alpha PBS Crosslock is only $7 dollars more!
Should i go for the 420HC regular version or the S30V AG version?
I really like 420HC, it keeps a good edge and i have no problems sharpening it,how does Buck's S30v compare?
I've read some threads that mention chipping problems with S30V, does that apply to Buck's S30V as well?
Is there any reason NOT to choose S30V?
I know its supposed to hold an edge longer but how is S30V for ease of resharpening?
The resharpening issue is key in my decision.
Any opinions, pics, information, comments will be greatly appreciated!

(FYI For sharpening i mostly use a Spyderco Double-stuff and Spyderco Tri-angle Sharpmaker)

I like 420HC better, because I can get it scary sharp. It takes a very fine edge and holds it long enough

Tholiver, buy what you like, that's the best thing to do... I like the S30V... I don't know why I just do... But like they say the 420HC hold an edge better... I'm sure someone will come a long and let you know for sure.... :)

Oliver, The S30V is top of the line and a very different steel that the other one you mention.Yes, S30V holds an edge 3-4 times longer. But it is more difficult to sharpen.
If this is a big concern as you mentioned, you might better go w/ the other.Buck addressed the chipping issue in their heat treat and I think that problem went away.

S30V all the way! Especially if you use a sharpmaker! ;)

I have the S30V version. It holds an edge very well, and is also very easy to sharpen because the edge is ground thin. For only $7 difference, I would get the AG version in S30V. I have not seen any chipping in my Buck S30V.

Ok i've been rethinking this issue.
You guys have sold me on S30V, however....
The new Vantage Pro S30V is out now so.....
i'm gonna buy that instead of the Crosslock!
lol.
Maybe i'll get a crosslock later down the road.
But right now i can't resist a Buck in S30V with a thumbhole and a flipper!
:D
