Buyer Beware - Schrade D'Holder Prototype

There is a current listing on ebay(6607163303) that is listed as a Schrade D'Holder Prototype.

There were only 10 Prototypes of each of the series made by D'Holder, each clearly marked as a D'Holder Prototype. This is not one of them!

The seller was contacted about this misrepresentation and essentially told me to "get screwed" - guess that is what she's going to do the the buyer!!

Dale, what is it, a reject knife or a fake?

It appears to be one that didn't make it past Quality Control. It hasn't any stamps, etching or S/N and hasn't been fully finished.

I have no doubt that it came from the Schrade factory as the "Letter" will attest, but, I suspect it was in a barrel or box of "trash" knives.

No one is more up to date on D'Holders, Schrades or otherwise, than you, Del. I trust you on this one. I have dealt with the seller before; probably another honest ebayer taken in (seduced by) the claim of authenticity, which does, no matter who signed it, mean nothing more than it came out of the factory.

Lots of this kinda crap floating around on ebay right now. Too bad, as it muddies the history of a fne old company.

Thanks Phil.

I guess because these are 'special' to me, it rankles more than usual to see another person getting "ripped off".

I wrote the seller, but it was a case of "shoot the messenger"!

I think that from now-on, when I list a Schrade I will include a message about it being the responsibility of the buyer to know what they are buying, and a link to this forum.

There's more than one of these on eBay, here's another: 6604807319

This is a knife that was completed except for stamping and a serial number before (just before!) Schrade closed.
This was one of the 13 Schrade D'Holder Whitetail knives (SDH04) that were sold by Schrade like this.
There were 55 of this knife(SDH04) that were sold fully completed (stamping & serial number), all going to A G Russell.

I know it's said to be SDH03, but that is an error. SDH01, SDH02, and SDH03 were the Ram, Grizzly and Elk.

Del, Del I'm so suprised at you for doubting the validity of that Elk D'Holder. Did you fail to notice that there is a certificate of authenticity proclaiming it to be a proto type signed by none other than Kevin Pipes? :jerkit: The rest of you guys bid away with full confidence and when you're through I have some ocean front property for sale right next to Bill's house in Scottsdale, Arizona.

DUDES!!.....

How did I get involved in this one????????

Paul, you are a funny guy..... :D

Bill

Bill,
Probably because Codger used your Paypal account to place the 3k bid.. Has he retracted yet?

Thanks for the "heads up" Irv...
I will check that sneaky old Codger out...even though I have a 2 dollar FIXED limit on my account, since I sent all my money to Nigeria on another eBay investment I couldn't pass up.

Ciao,

Bill

Bill,

This would likely be a better investment that the Nigerian one. You could at least nail the Scorpions with this. :-)

Del

Thanks Del,

I'll send a followup email to get my money returned from Nigeria. :D

Hope you're well.

Bill

Pushed back up so Mr Parker can see it if he hasn't.

For someone who supposedly grew up in the knife industry, he's become very adept at "sticking it to" folks.

I have seen the knife, please see my comments in the "Hey MVP... another bogus knife" thread. Since I did not sell this knife I find it hard to see how I am sticking it to anyone..... JP
