Buying a 110...

So when I get my paycheck on Thursday I'm going to buy my first buck 110:cool: and I'm wondering if there is anything I should know prior to buying?

For example what is a good price for a brand new 110?

Is the metal good on them? Is there anything I should be on the lookout for?

I really like the classic look of them, it's what my grandpa carried on the farm. I can't wait to add this classic knife to my collection;).
Thanks guys :D

Welcome to the forum, Eagle!

Congrats on choosing one of the best knives ever made. Perhaps the first choice you may make is whether you want a plain handle or a finger groove model for slightly more. I have found that both models are very comfortable and secure, so I guess it's a toss up. The fit and finish on the 110's is excellent, but you will want to check for any blade play, as you would do with any folder.

Other choices you have, are the type of blade steel and scale material. Blade steels in the Buck Custom Shoppe range from 420HC (standard) to BG-42 and in the case of other distributors, unique specialty steels are available, such as CPM 154 from Bass Pro and S30V from Cabela's (S.I.R. Mail order in Canada). If you go the Buck Custom Shoppe route, you can also have a choice in the bolster metal and a wide variety of scale material.

No matter which 110 you decide on, you are getting far more than just a knife, you are getting the most copied lockback folder ever made, as well as a knife with a great history. Enjoy the hunt!

There's a K-Mart and a Wal-Mart just about 5 miles from the Rainbow Bridge; both should have the 110 for ~$26.95USD + 8% NYS sales tax... :D

K-Mart usually has the clam pack; Wal-Mart usually the yellow box...Traditionally, the yellow box has the leather sheath; the clam-pack has Nylon...but look closely and if you don't see the sheath you want, go to the other store...

Wal-Mart usually lets you open the box and look at the knife (check out the tang stamp); K-Mart not so...

This may sound stupid but the 110 is made in the USA right? I have had problems with china made bucks!

I'd bet my paycheck it is US made however.

I've heard nothing bad about the 110. I think grandpa would be proud :D

Thanks for the info guys...

One more question, the stock sheath is a bit ugly, anyone know if there are any good hand crafters online I could go to for a nicer sheath?

I'm hitting up walmart....I need to make sure it's not some knock off or faulty knife...is there anything I should look for on the knife itself? stamps, hidden symbols?
Thanks

It'll have some kind of tang stamp...At my Wal-Mart they usually let you pick them over (I'm in Lockport; different Wal-Mart) if you tell them you're a collector and show them the tang stamp table (The Last Confederate posted one)...But it doesn't really matter, if this is your first one...It'll say Buck on the blade...

You might want to pick up a 112 while you're there... :D

WalMart carries the nylon sheath version, most places. The leather sheath is available separately - or with the knife from some dealers. Many, me included, carry it in their pocket - check on local laws.

One other caveat... they are sharp! Congratulations.

Stainz

Stainz is right, for new stock (my 07 yellow box 110 came with Nylon). Which is a good reason to check for older tang stamps, with the leather sheath (if you want the leather sheath). :)

If all you can find is Nylon and you want a leather sheath, drop me a line... ;)

I'm always glad to help a Canadian brother!!! :D

My Walmart has the 110 at $34.95. The Christmas special was $30, bought mine after Christmas when they were discounted to $15.

I just tried to order a 110 custom at the Buck custom shoppe and when I clicked to move on my internet explorer advised me I was being redirected to an unknown site and advised me to close the page for security reasons (ie information may be revealed to wrong entity) is this normal for the Buck custom shop?

Roof,,,sometimes the clampacks do have the leather sheaths, least the older ones did. usually the difference is so the dealers can hang them on a rack.

Greater, you drifted this thread topic there. May want to start a separate thread.

Yeah the one that is at the Canadian Tire I would be buying at is leather but ugly. I'll start a new thread for my search of a nice leather sheath.;)
