Hi I am very new to the custom knife world but I want to buy a new custom fixed blade. I'm a big fan of Nocturnal Knives, Spartan Blades, and Fallen Oak Forge. I don't know anything about them besides I like the way they look. Does anyone have any advice or anything that will help me on my custom knife journey? I have open ears!

Watch what is being offered for sale. This will give a mix of prices and styles to consider. Do some Googleing to see what the high-end knife dealers have for sale.

I am a big fan of knives showing the Delaware Maid!

Check out this forums exchange, you'll see new customs every day, a lot of them are very affordable.

Might want to look at the Nocturnal knives thread in The Good Bad and Ugly section... AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Unless you want to get taken for a ride, do some research. Actually hold a knife from your prospective list. Determine if it's actually a custom knife; that is, a knife you can have made to your specifications, or just a knife with a price that's not found at Wal-Mart. If you're going to spend a lot of money on a knife you should ensure it will do what you want it to do. If you want it to look "cool" then go for that. If you want it to cut fenders off old pickup trucks go for that. If you want it to do both (well, you get the idea...) But make sure you get what you want or you're going to be disappointed.

Spend some time online, and more importantly, go to a couple knife shows and actually touch and feel some expensive knives. I guarantee your taste and opinions will change (for the better) once you actually take the time to look before you spend.

(disclaimer: I have bought knives I wish I hadn't, but I'm getting better...)

We do have a custom knives section, you know & our own custom makers. Have you looked in either of those sections?

Definitely research before you buy. Custom knives is a different world. You haft to kniw your stuff , have a pocket full of cash at the ready and also be a little lucky but the results can be worth it.

One option is to contact your maker of choice and get on a list. However most of your big names books are either closed or the wait is ridiculous. That's what drives up some to what some may consider outrageous prices.

Research the 3 brands you listed and just buy which ever one appeals to you. I can tell you from expierence that the personal relationships you develop with custom knife makers is awesome. Sure productions stand behind their products . To have a maker make a knife just for you and say here you go ,beat on it all you like .

Many great makers out here. The Internet is your friend when it comes to that.
