HEllo guys!

I want to buy a Khukri for my trekking explorations into the jungle. Any idea what type of requiements do I need for the Khukri? Any idea how to choose one?;)

Check out Himalayan Imports website. Also they have a forum here with lots of good info.

Come on over to the Himalayan Imports forum. We're a friendly bunch and those guys (not me) know more about crooked knives than anybody I've ever had the pleasure of talking to. There are a number of different styles to suit whatever climate\geography you are planning on.

Not sure of the spelling but I do have a 15" Ang Khola from H.I.. If you think you can break it....forget it! It's huge and heavy and will chop just about anything you want to chop in a jungle, however, I hope you are not expecting it to be very "stainless" since both of mine( I also have a UBE made by the maker to the Royal family) are made out of forged Mercedes truck springs. When Uncle Bill was still alive he said if I could break one he would replace it with 2 more!

Check out there web site, they also might make you laugh!

Thanks! Any idea what is their website? I am interested in those Khukris by http://www.khukurihouseonline.com/ . Khukuri House is the only supplier of khukuris(kukris) to the British Gurkha Units, the Gurkha Contingent of Singapore Police, the Gurkha Reserve unit in Brunei and the Gurkha Museum in the UK.

I have looked at their kukri's alot and I have always wondered....though there not really expensive do they hold up good, I mean are they good knives?

WEll, you can't deny they are bad knives! They can take up any thing you throw at them, that's for a good Khukri!

I've got a WW2 HI khukuri and it doubles as a machete and axe for me, so I carry less. Brilliant power for the weight, and mine appears to be invincible...the spine at the base is half an inch thick.

Although a kind soul on the forums gave me his khukuri, the khukuris in general are fairly affordable, so they won't detract from abuse like some super high end fixed blade might...and I wouldn't be surprised if they're tougher anyway.

My only complaint is that if you use it a lot, your wrist can get really sore...the wrist seems take most of the impact. At least, mine does.

Have you ever checked out Cold Steel? Their steel is Carbon V the only down side is the price, about 160.00 they also have a khukri machete that has a thin blade for about 20.00.
I've also owned the Khukri from Ka-bar and am really impressed it retails at about 50.00. It can cut 1/4 inch sapplings in one stroke.

I own a Cold Steel khukuri, some Khukuri House and some Himalayan-Imports. Out of all of them Himalayan-Imports beats them hands down, they are pure work horses and you can't go wrong with any of the models.

The sheaths are wood core with leather over them.

My two-handed machete can cut down 1" to 2" alder and fur sapplings in a single swing. I'm not saying that your Ka-Bar Khukri isn't good. I'm just saying that 1/4 inch sapplings isn't a very good benchmark.

HI Rocks, there is nothing better in khukris. I own several and am impressed with these indestructable well-made blades. Although if I was going into a jungle environment and weight was a factor I might consider a machete. If, however, there is a chance of meeting up with a wild attacking animal I would sacrifice the weight for the security a HI provides. Your decision.

WEll guys, you all sure have lots of knives! Any Idea if HI is better than Cold Stell or Ka Bar?

That's for you to decide, though I will tell you that HIs are more heavy duty. Plus, they are made in the traditional manner.

So after hearing so much, I think you guys will opt for HI blades any time! Thanks guys! I would like to know , there are so many diffrent types of Khukri like Ang khola and the others, wad is the diffrence?
