I looked at alot of choices for a small utility blade. For the money, size and uses; the Tops Street scapel is the best choice.

I have this forged 3" paring knife by Sabatier which is awesome except that the blade is really thin. When I start pulling a larger income I will just get that reproduced and thicker by a custom maker. The Tops is the closest to it.

A survival paring knife.

The Scalpel is a little beast for sure, good for batoning and prying. Not much for lots of cutting though, at 1/4" thick with such a short blade. I still like mine though.

i've had the paracord version for a few years now. great performance and decent edge geometry for such a stout blade

Take a look at some of the Bark Rivers. They make a number of small, robust fixed blades suitable for edc pocket carry. I have been toting around a Mini Canadian happily for a few months now.

I'm kinda confused here,

The only scalpel I can find on their site is the one in the link that 4W4K3 posted.

Where is this street scalpel?

The paracord wrapped one looks like this I believe...

Hey Chris...

The SS is a cool little knife....

You could pry a Russian out of a T43 with that thing..

When it comes to Paring knives,, alot of people are using the Vic paring knife...

I make a concealex sheath for the Vic paring..
Great little knife to have around,, gets Wicked sharp,,nice and light and is great for preparting food or light duty camp chores...

I would mind a SS from TOPS though..

Nice Choice..

I like mine alot, I let a buddy barrow it for a while he broke the tip off throwing it. I was able to re-profile it and took the Para cord wrap off, now I need to replace the cord. I also retrofitted my sheath for IWB carry I like it better than neck carry.

Lots of great feedback.

JB, one concern of mine is if there is a broken tip, hell the BL is only 2 5/8. Does it throw the whole knife out of whack.

I never saw the paracord wrapped version, I don't think they offer that on the website.

How is the sheath? What is the best carry with the sheath?

I was thinking IWB?

my ss came with a belt clip but it is on the wrong side of the sheath for me. i like to carry iwb up front right side (2:00 position) this sheath will only allow for a reverse grip draw from that position. i think it is to be mounted outside the belt.

it has been along time since i ordered a tops knife but mike fuller customized sheaths for me before so maybe he still will. they have excellent customer service.

I just looked at the TOPS website, and they definitely don't offer the paracord wrapped version.
I like it better than the Micarta handle version!

I just wanted to follow up and thank everyone for their input. I have actually decided NOT to buy the Tops SS.

After the feedback, I decided that it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I ended up after quite a long deliberation buying the CRKT Hammond abc. It is as close as I think I could get for $45. The mulitple carry options was the biggest factor. I ordered it from Bayou knives and got 2 other knives as well.

I also considered the Mission MPU in 440c but that was $80.

I love that struggle for finding th eperfect knife. I usually only buy a knife or 2 every 6 months.

Thanks All,

Chris
