Where is a good place to purchase a used knife? I think it would be interesting to obtain some folders to tear them down and put them back together. I have a nice work bench for my rifle repair and a lot of nice tools. Just thought it would be great as I enjoy working with my hands.

There is a section of this very forum where you can buy used knives for very good prices.

See the icon at the top left of this page that says menu? Click on that then click on forums. Scroll down until you see “The knife exchange” section. They have used knives for sale section under the knife exchange catagory.

I've used the Exchange over the last few yrs to buy MANY used knives from the Exchange...much more often than buying a NEW knife from a "shop." Here is the link:

Since others have tackled the "where", let me jump in with some unsolicited advice as to "how":
Always ask questions if you have them, even if you might miss out of what seems like a good deal by taking the time to do so.

Just depends on what type you want. If it is to practice taking them apart and reassembling, you can get some really cheap stuff on the bay, maybe even new. If you want to rehab quality knives, that's different.

Allow me to build on my friend's recommendation a little... From your post-count...you are new here on the forums. WELCOME!
Often you will see a knife that has a few pics, but the seller may have listed little or nothing about the most imp parts of the knife: its intended use, grip thickness and length, the weight, spine thickness and blade length, type of grind, the blade-steel, and so forth. It makes it tough to buy a knife in such cases with so little information available in the ad.
I will usually turn to bladehq.com and paste in the name and model of the knife into the search box. BladeHq is only one of our excellent forum- supporting knife-shops, and this one usually list all parameters of the knife, including the SPINE thickness, which is of utmost importance to me...as it usually determines whet, her it's intended for light or heavy-duty use, and how well it will slice...
Also, many used knives on the Exchange is often nearly new, and you can save a ton of money(over retail) by buying these. And, if you do your research, you can resell a knife that you purchased, but don't like, without too great a loss.

The Exchange is a good place to buy, but have you thought about buying kit knives and putting on handles, etc, to practice your working skills? Or modifying some of the knives you buy on the exchange?

Ask questions, get photos, read the feedback of the seller. If you were planning on stripping knives, make sure the last owner hasn't already striped the screw heads.
Some companies use loktite, some don't, some did and don't anymore. The manufactures forums are the best place to look that up.
If you want knives just to work on that might be a little beat up, then checking the trade section or posting a want-ad (though you might need be to be a supporter for that, I don't recall) Either way, be smart and keep track of what's going on, and you'll be able to pick up some decent stuff.
As for buying new cheap stuff, a lot of things are "get what you pay for" so soft steel, poor quality screws and all that is par for the course, and might be more frustrating than its worth.

Others have suggested the Exchabge here, which I definitely agree. Just want to concur what Comeuppance Comeuppance said.

Also, stay away from those asking for only PayPal friends & family.

If you are looking for a traditional slipjoint to play with, I find cheap ones at gun shows and flea markets.

Actually, if you want some traditional slipjoints to take apart and work on PM me. I can send you a few that need work and would be good practice.

Don't forget to check the good bad and ugly section for some feedback on some usernames to make sure your in good hands and avoid situations that could be avoided.

Ive bought a handful of knives in the exchange. Great place.
