Buying discontinued knives

Hello,

I just notice that Benchmade is discontinuing two of my favorite budget knives: the Nagara and the Benchmite II. I was wondering whether it made sense to buy a second knife for each of these in case I ever lost the one I have.

I haven't bought knvies "for the safe" in the past, but if I lost either one I would be bummed to have to pay through the nose to buy one off eBay.

Do others out there do something similar?

Best,
Michael

They are discontinued in Red Class (hell, the entire Red Class is discontinued for that matter :D) You will still be able to buy them, but as part of their Harley Davidson line of knives.

Oh, and yes, I do have some duplicates of my favorites, but mostly Limited Editions of the same model, which is pretty much the same knife with different color handles or improved blade steel.

More than two, I'd say :)

As to the OP - As with most things, if you find something you really like, get extras since things can get difficult to find after they go out of production.

If you love it and you know it clap your hands errr... Buy two :P

As soon as Kershaw discontinued the Cyclone I bought another one just in case I ever lost/broke mine. I regret not doing the same with my green SAK Bantam...

you have a heck of a collection of duplicates :D

If a blade is still in production I dont feel the need to have a duplicate but in this case since the red class is being discontinued the blades are no longer going to be made anymore, so If I were you I would buy 2-3 of each that way you will be set incase something happens to your user you will have 1-2 back up blades..

Buy them while you can-I have duplicates on a few favorite knives and search knives for sale for favs that I only have one of
