I think it is great to buy from a dealer or small time knife maker. You know exactly where the money is going and you are getting a handmade product. I recommend buying from a maker.

I don't usually paddle my canoe with one either, but I suppose an Elephant Toenail would come in handy for that.
A dealer is a good place to get those.
