I am crrently in the market for an 805 tsek axis, and was going to bu it for 130 from the benchmade site. However at sites like the knife connection http://www.theknifeconnection.com/theknifeconnection/ben805tsekax.html I cna get the same knife for like 87 dollars. This seems to good to be ture. Does anyone have expeirance buying from these types of places......and would they reccomend it or reccomend just buying from the benchmade site

If you feel the need to pay full price, then buy directly from Benchmade. The price they sell it for is the manufacterer's suggested retail price (MSRP). The beauty of the Internet is that you can find almost everything for it's wholesale price. The knives you get from these other stores online should be exactly the same, just no where near as much.

No, we don't trust STORES, we buy all our knives directly from Benchmade's webpage. :p

There's a ton of places that have deals like that just do a quick search.

Narco,
Yes, these websites can absolutely be trusted, if indeed you are talking about the ones listed above.;) dtsoll

I've bought from both New Graham and 1SKS (onestopeknifeshop) and will recommend both of them--haven't done any business with knifeworks yet. I buy from Mike at New Graham whenever I have the chance. You can always do a search in the Good, Bad, and Ugly Forum to hear more about those companies (and others as well).

Incidentally, the owner of 1SKS also owns/operates these forums so buying from there will support the site.

Welcome to the forums.

Narco,

The retail price is steep, but the manufacturers then release knives to their authorized dealers (who can offer special sales once in a blue moon, but are trusted to charge a minimum price that's almost as steep as retail) and then to distributers who resell the knives at wholesale prices to the online discount stores like Knifeworks and New Graham. The last ones usually have the lowest prices and the two I've mentioned were great to deal with. The discounters are usually also the last to receive the latest, greatest knives, but, when they get them, usually have the lowest prices. Factory direct is more expensive, but, if you just have to have that knife NOW, it's the way to go.

online discount stores like Knifeworks and New Graham.

Just to clear up something, New Graham is a brick and mortor store established out of New Graham Pharmacy wich was established in 1935. And I pretty sure Knife Works is a brick and Mortor store alos. It may be a minor thing but we pride our selves in not being some "internet discount, fly by night store." although I realize thombrogan did not mean anything foul I just take pride in what we are and do :)

I am sold, new grahm or knifeworks..........whihever has my 805 is getting my business!

Manufacturers will only sell a knife at the MSRP. They do this so that they dont end up competing with their distributers. Some Manufaturers will sell their own knives though and not have anyone else sell them. And there are others that will sell theirs at MSRP, and so will every one of their distributers.

Sorry New Graham Pharmacy and friends! I didn't mean to misrepresent your businesses in my poor example.

Narco,
The guy above me I highly recommend. Great service, prices, and just a great guy. I just got a couple knives from him, effortlessly. go get'em!! dtsoll:)

I am sure that NGK-Webmaster is not inferring that all internet knife stores are fly by night. The people at 1SKS sure treated me right when I purchased from them.

Your right Keith but 1SKS is in a different league then the "fly-by-night" stores I am referring too, you know the ones: a website up one day no contact numbers, no physical address, and not there when something goes wrong but you knew that. :)

I was thinking about buying my cold steel sake keeper II from knifeworks, but I don't think I can pass up buying from New Graham which is located in my parent's hometown of great Bluefield VA!!! Just wondering, when did you guys convert to selling only knives?
